About Us:
The Arc of Essex County is a non-profit organization that provides services and programs for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families. Our corporate office is located in Livingston, NJ and we have programs throughout Essex County.
The Arc of Essex County’s Stepping Stones School is a Department of Education approved private school for students with disabilities, serving children ages 3-12. Located in Fairfield, NJ, the school is designed to meet the developmental and educational needs of children with cognitive impairments such as Down Syndrome, and other children with similar educational and developmental needs.
Job Summary:
The Stepping Stones School is currently seeking a school nurse who administers the healthcare component of the school under supervision of the School Principal and the Certified School Nurse.
This position is part-time with a requirement to work every Wednesday, and with availability to pick up per-diem hours as needed on other days
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Gather appropriate information from health agencies and professionals
• Communicate with physicians and other professionals regarding the health status of students
• Evaluate and assess problems, goals and medical plans and participate on the interdisciplinary team to maximize integration of indicated health services into the total program
• Maintain appropriate medical records
• Educate and assist students’ family in providing follow-up health care
• Coordinate the health referral process and communicate health findings to appropriate persons and/or agencies
• Recommend, maintain and order medical material and equipment.
• Provide health training for staff and family members in conjunction with other team members
• Attend team meetings and confer with staff and related services consultants
• Develop familiarity with and follow all policies, procedures and standards set forth by the ARC of Essex County, Inc. and Stepping Stones school; NJ Department of Education and NJ Department of Health and Senior Services
• Perform additional duties as directed by the Principal
Requirements:
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
• Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines
Education / Work Experience / Skills:
• Must be a certified Registered Nurse
• NJDOE School Nurse certification required
• Some experience working with children with developmental disabilities and/or special needs preferred
