Founded in 2019, CarbonCapture is a California-based climate tech company that makes modular machines that can be connected in large arrays to capture massive amounts of CO2 directly from the atmosphere. CarbonCapture was created at Idealab, a leading technology incubator.
 
We are looking for a Patent Engineer to join our growing team and work closely with our mechanical and systems engineering teams. This person will be responsible for researching art relevant to company projects, working with other technical employees to collect internal information and draft patent applications, and coordinate with outside counsel to file and prosecute patent applications.

Job responsibilities

  • Develop IP strategies to maintain CarbonCapture’s patent portfolio in alignment with company’s goals
  • Perform patent preparation and prosecution work internally and coordinate with outside IP counsel
  • Actively review and monitor the patents and publications related to the carbon capture industry
  • Carry out detailed landscape analysis and carve out areas of interest for the technical team to develop IP

Role requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar field with at least 5 years of experience
  • Prior experience working at companies developing first-of-kind products
  • Experience in patent research, drafting, and prosecution
  • Ability to understand various technologies
  • Excellent written communication skills
  • Well organized with the ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage shifting responsibilities in a dynamic, cross-functional team environment
