Job Duties:
The Product Development Engineer is an integral part of the Product Development Team at 3form. As a key team member you will have the opportunity to work on a large variety of projects in different roles. Specific responsibilities include:
- Product Development - This position will be responsible for contribution to new product development and product improvement projects. The role collaborates with a cross functional development team to produce thoughtful and innovative products that are at the forefront of current interior design and architecture trends. On the front end, this position works with industrial designers and engineers to ideate product concepts and evaluate them for manufacturing feasibility. Next, this position is responsible for actualizing the design with a technical problem-solving approach and turning a visionary concept into a reality. Finally, collaboration with a stellar operations team encompasses completion of DFM, process documentation, formalized SOP creation, and written instructions for easy-to-follow instructions for our customer.
 - R&D - This position is responsible and expected to explore technologies, concepts, innovative products, design, sustainability, and manufacturing on a team of engineers who hold themselves to the same standards. This role will collaborate with the team to develop both internal and external opportunities for research, design and development. This position is responsible for driving capability and technology growth.
 - Product Support - This position is expected to provide technical product expertise for existing platforms to support a sales team and internal partners. Additional duties include the qualification and validation of business opportunities, new materials and sustainable products through the use of engineering best practices such as DOE analysis, FMEA, and ROI calculations.
 - Infrastructure Improvement - Work to identify opportunities in system and process development within the Product Development Team. This includes organizational efforts encompassing data structures, data backed decision making, and product lifecycle databases. In addition, this role is responsible for identifying CapEx opportunities for infrastructure improvement that includes material characterization, process improvement, or technology optimization.
 - Sustainability - This position will also contribute to 3form's sustainability mission. They will identify and develop product opportunities, waste reduction capabilities, and repurpose the 3form wastestream into new/existing products. This focus is at the heart of 3form and an inventive, thoughtful, and creative approach to sustainability is expected.
 
- Other engineering responsibilities include
- Design components utilizing manufacturing technologies, including composite lamination, aluminum and plastic extrusion, machining, metal die-casting, metal stamping, injection molding, etc.
 - Work closely with vendors and purchasing in the sourcing and production of prototypes and inventoried products
 - Responsible for the ease of assembly, structural integrity, and the end of life of products.
 - Manage projects and timelines from conceptual idea to completed, documented, and ready-to-sell products. This includes the design, engineering, testing, best-practices manufacturing, production drawings, and installation tools and documentation to launch systems.
 - Lead installation and testing of products in development
 - Other duties as assigned
 
 
Required Qualifications:
- BS in Mechanical or Material Science Engineering (other BS degrees in engineering may be considered depending on experience)
 - 2-5 years professional experience in product design, polymer characterization and development of architectural components or systems
 - Strong design sensibility, creative talents and natural technical curiosity
 - Demonstrated hands-on development, prototyping, and problem solving
 - Excellent written and verbal communication skills
 - Sound and thorough understanding of structural mechanical design
 - Knowledge of manufacturing techniques including machining, injection molding, and extruding
 - Expert level proficiency in Solidworks, Microsoft Excel; knowledge of Rhino 3D and Adobe CC a plus
 - Glass hardware design experience considered a plus
 - Work well in a small team environment and wear the many "hats" required for a small, dynamic, agile company
