This senior-level position within IBM’s Supply Chain Engineering division is responsible for driving strategic initiatives in bare printed circuit board (PCB) quality reliability and supplier development across IBM’s enterprise hardware platforms. The role demands technical leadership cross-functional collaboration and the ability to influence design and sourcing decisions at a global scale.
Key Responsibilities· Technical Leadership: Serve as the subject matter expert for PCB technology manufacturing processes and reliability standards. Provide advanced design-for-manufacturability guidance and influence PCB stack-up and impedance requirements during early product development phases.
· Strategic Supplier Development: Lead technical sourcing strategies and supplier selection for complex PCB technologies. Drive supplier capability assessments and long-term technology roadmaps aligned with IBM’s product portfolio.
· Quality & Reliability Governance: Define and enforce qualification standards for PCB suppliers including advanced reliability testing protocols. Establish continuous improvement programs with suppliers to enhance quality yield and cost efficiency.
· Failure Analysis & Risk Mitigation: Oversee root cause investigations for systemic manufacturing and field failures ensuring timely corrective actions. Develop predictive models for reliability risks and implement proactive mitigation strategies.
· Cross-Functional Influence: Collaborate with hardware development procurement and operations teams to align technical requirements with business objectives. Mentor junior engineers and contribute to organizational knowledge development.
· Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering Materials Science Mechanical Engineering Chemical Engineering or related field.
· 8+ years of experience in PCB manufacturing quality engineering or supplier development.
· Strong leadership and communication skills with proven ability to influence cross-functional teams.
· Expertise in statistical analysis (SPC DOE Cp/Cpk) and reliability modeling.
· Deep understanding of advanced PCB technologies (HDI high-speed signal integrity insertion loss modeling).
· Experience with global supplier management and technology roadmapping.
· Proficiency in laboratory failure analysis techniques (SEM-EDS microsectioning FTIR thermal analysis).
· Familiarity with industry standards (IPC JEDEC) and regulatory compliance.
· Flexibility to join evening calls with global teams is expected.
