This position is designated asHybrid - Fully Flexibleand expected to work from our World Headquarters office once per month to several times a week. The specific days in the office are determined by managers based on business requirements. Rotary is under the jurisdiction of Illinois employment laws; we require all employees to live within reasonable daily commuting distance to Evanston.

Position Overview
This Senior Project Accountant is responsible for managing financial activities related to projects or programs. This role focuses on tracking project expenses, activity-based transactions, and ensuring compliance with funders’ requirements. The accountant works closely with program managers, project directors, and the finance team to ensure that financial information is accurate, timely, and aligned with the organization’s mission and funding guidelines. This accountant will use Oracle ERP (Project, Fixed Assets, and General Ledger) modules to complete accounting for cost capture, allocation and reporting by product and project.
You Will Have
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (required)
• CPA or equivalent certification preferred
• Minimum of 5 years of progressive and related accounting experience, especially experience accounting for project costs
• Excellent working knowledge of GAAP for not-for-profit organizations
• Proficient in accounting software and Excel
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with Oracle ERP, especially Project Accounting, General Ledger and Fixed Assets reporting and reconciliation
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain financial information to non-financial staff
• Attention to detail and ability to meet tight deadlines
• Willingness and ability to travel

You Will Be Responsible For
Project Financial Management:
• Tracking, monitoring, reporting and reconciling all project-related financial activities/expenditures, labor costs, capital vs expense items using Oracle Project and Fixed Assets modules
• Preparing and maintaining project budget including but not limited to projects/products, meetings & events, committees and regional leaders activities, senior leaders support tasks, and travel affiliates.
• Coordinating with project and cost center managers to forecast cash flow and funding requirements
• Ensuring expenditures are within approved budgets and financial policies; and ensuring timely and accurate capitalization of costs in the Oracle Fixed Assets module, in line with accounting principles
Financial Reporting:
• Performing journal entries for month-end and year-end close, validating and recording accruals; supporting reconciliation of capital assets; and producing regular financial statements and monthly project reports for internal and external review
• Performing product budget model analysis to create and communicate product staff transfer and capitalization by product for both Rotary and Accion
• Preparing project-level reports, dashboards, cost summaries and variance analysis comparing actual vs. budgeted expenditures for Finance and the Product Teams
• Working with external auditors during audits, ensuring that all documentation is in order.
• Handling accounting reconciliation between financial application modules (Project vs General Ledger and Fixed Assets)
Compliance & Internal Controls:
• Ensuring compliance with project reporting accounting rules / guidance, internal control guidance, capitalization policies, and audit standards
• Maintaining internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure the accuracy of financial records
• Maintaining the project module change management process for new projects/products, and change in sub-ledger accounting rules
Collaboration:
• Liaising with project/product managers, project directors, and finance teams to ensure accurate financial management of projects
• Providing financial advice and support to project teams on planning, forecasting, capital initiative assessment to enhance budgetary control and cost-efficiency and effectiveness

Salary range
$100,101 - $111,224
