Job Description
Senior Project ManagerÂ
About Canopy
Canopy is a fast-growing SaaS startup in Draper, Utah building simple, efficient software for accounting firms. We are looking to revolutionize the accounting space with modern, user-friendly software for a neglected industry. We place strong emphasis on delighting our customers, spotting and solving problems, and being good people along the way. We espouse the “Spotify model” of agile development, which is a people-driven, autonomous approach for scaling agile that emphasizes the importance of culture, accountability, communication and quality delivery.
We are hiring a Project Manager to help standardize and improve our product development processes and drive greater accountability across our product development squads (teams). As a Project Manager, you will help establish delivery metrics and drive greater visibility into our release cycles and progress. You will administer the tools we use to manage our work, to help us as we scale our products and grow the department. You will also be heavily relied upon as we look to improve our processes, better plan and estimate work, and ultimately increase the predictability of delivering our strategic roadmap. This is an exciting new role at Canopy that will have a lot of visibility and interface directly with product and engineering leadership. We’re looking for someone who is a charismatic servant-leader, who fosters loyalty and commitment through their example, who inspires (not demands) others to give their best, and who can hold others accountable in a way that feels natural (not heavy-handed). If this sounds like you, apply today! We’d love to hear from you.
This position will be a remote role. Candidates must be based in the US.
What You’ll Do:
- Work with product development teams (we call them squads) to help them identify the best practices for standardizing and improving their product development processes. Note that we don’t take a one-size-fits-all approach at Canopy, but rather allow each squad the autonomy to determine what works best for them.
- Remove blockers and drive accountability and continuous improvements within each squad through the appropriate means (e.g. retrospectives, backlog groomings, standups, planning meetings, etc.)Â
- Assist each squad in establishing and/or improving upon the tools and processes they use to plan and estimate work, with a goal of increased predictability in our roadmap delivery.
- Establish delivery metrics and drive greater company-wide visibility into our release cycles and progress against our product development milestones.
- Administer our tools (e.g. Jira) for planning and tracking work.
- Understand that your role is not to be an agile purist. We believe that people and delivering quality software is more important than adherence to a specific process.
Your Skills Include:
- 5+ years in a scrum master, project manager, program manager, or related role
- 5+ years working at a SaaS software development company
- 5+ years experience working in an agile product development environment
- College degree or equivalent work experience
- You’re a natural leader, but you don’t have an ego. You inspire the confidence and loyalty of your coworkers through servant leadership. You’re a mentor and an ally that people come to for advice and guidance.
Other Preferred Skills:Â
- Experience administering Atlassian tools (e.g. JIRA)Â
We know many women do not apply for a job if they don't perfectly fit the description. We want you to apply anyway.
Benefits and Perks:
- Flexible PTO
- Great medical, dental, and vision benefits
- 12 weeks paid maternity and 2 weeks paternity leave
- Life insurance, long and short-term disability coverage
- Hospital Indemnity plan available
- Fully-stocked kitchenÂ
- Employee improvement budget to use however you see fit (e.g. books, courses)
