Rosewood Design Studio is a boutique custom millwork and cabinetry shop serving New York City’s high-end residential and commercial markets. We’re looking for aShop Foremanto lead day-to-day operations in our Hunts Point facility.
This is a hands-on leadership role for an experienced cabinetmaker who can manage production flow, quality control, and shop organization while also possessing the ability to personally fabricate complex custom millwork and cabinetry when needed. The ideal candidate is naturally organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable handling multiple moving parts in a fast-paced custom environment.
Key responsibilities
• Production management:Plan and oversee daily/weekly workflow from cut lists through assembly and finishing to meet project deadlines.
• Supervision:Lead a small team of skilled cabinetmakers and finishers; delegate tasks, maintain accountability, and ensure top-tier craftsmanship.
• Fabrication:Perform hands-on fabrication of custom millwork and cabinetry components as required, ensuring precision, efficiency, and adherence to project specifications and finish standards.
• Quality control:Inspect work at every stage — cutting, edge-banding, assembly, and pre-finish — ensuring pieces meet drawings and Rosewood’s standards.
• Communication:Communicate clearly and professionally via email and phone with project managers and other departments to track progress, resolve issues, and coordinate deliveries.
• Punchlist support:Assist in organizing and executing shop and field punchlists, ensuring details are tracked, completed, and documented accurately.
• Materials & logistics:Manage material orders, inventory, and deliveries; verify incoming hardware and supplies.
• Technical guidance:Troubleshoot fabrication or installation challenges; ensure proper hardware, joinery, and materials are used.
• Safety & maintenance:Maintain a clean, safe, and organized shop; ensure all tools and machinery are properly maintained.
• Mentorship:Support and train junior staff, promoting consistency and pride in workmanship.
Qualifications
• 10+ years in custom millwork or cabinetry fabrication.
• 3+ years leading a shop team or managing production.
• Proficient with veneers, hardwoods, laminates, and specialty finishes.
• Ability to read and interpret shop drawings, cut lists, and CAD files.
• Strong understanding of European hardware systems (Blum, Salice, Hafele, Hettich).
• Skilled with standard woodworking machinery (panel saw, edge bander, jointer, planer, routers, CNC familiarity a plus).
• Excellent written communication skills, especially via email.
• Naturally organized, able to track multiple jobs and priorities simultaneously.
• Reliable, punctual, and proactive in solving production and installation challenges.
Schedule & compensation
• Schedule:Monday–Friday (day shift); occasional Saturdays or overtime as needed.
• Compensation:$75,000 – $105,000 per year, depending on experience and leadership ability.
