Position Summary
This role is responsible for the comprehensive management of all aspects of student financial accounts. Key duties include processing and reconciling Direct Loan disbursements, handling payments and living expense refunds, maintaining and collecting on student accounts and Perkins Loan accounts, and ensuring compliance with federal regulations.
Essential Responsibilities
•
Oversee student account operations, including:
•
Researching and documenting steps required to reassign Perkins Loans to the Department of Education.
•
Processing tuition and fee payments, Title IV awards, and living expense refunds.
•
Reconciling student tuition accounts with the General Ledger and closing student AR accounts monthly.
•
Responding to student inquiries related to tuition, scholarships, and loans.
•
Manage all aspects of the Federal Perkins Loan Program, including:
•
Handling promissory notes and student loan files.
•
Verifying loan documents and conducting entrance/exit interviews.
•
Billing students, collecting payments, and maintaining loan records.
•
Reconciling Perkins Loan accounts to the General Ledger.
•
Communicating with former students and recommending deferments or collection actions as needed.
•
Assigning defaulted loans to the Department of Education.
•
Ensuring compliance with all Department of Education regulations.
•
Maintain up-to-date procedures manuals for student and Perkins loan accounts.
•
Coordinate with Financial Aid and the Department of Education on funding issues, award changes, and Title IV compliance.
Other Responsibilities
•
Ensure proper maintenance of accounting records and completion of monthly close tasks related to student accounts.
•
Prepare journal entries and supporting documentation for the accounting system.
•
Complete variance analysis and provide supporting schedules as assigned.
•
Maintain internal controls and documentation for assigned areas.
•
Prepare audit schedules and support external audit testing.
•
Perform daily bank reconciliations and monitor monthly tuition revenue.
•
Generate financial reports for management.
•
Complete other related duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications
Skills and Abilities:
•
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
•
Proficiency in accounting and financial software (e.g., Solomon IV).
•
Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel; experience with Quicken preferred.
•
Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
•
High level of accuracy and financial responsibility.
•
Strong problem-solving, interpersonal, and judgment skills.
•
Discretion with confidential information is essential.
•
Physical ability to sit, speak clearly, hear, and see computer screens and documents for extended periods.
Experience:
•
Accurate and efficient data entry skills.
•
Ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a high-pressure environment.
•
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
•
Exceptional customer service, with the ability to work collaboratively with students, staff, faculty, and external vendors.
•
Advanced organizational and time management capabilities.
•
Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Office skills.
Education:
•
Associate's degree or higher required.
Knowledge Requirements:
•
Understanding of Fund Accounting and GAAP.
•
Familiarity with budgeting principles.
Preferred Qualifications:
•
Experience in non-profit or higher education settings.
•
Experience with MIP and/or Microix Workflow systems.

Compensation:$30-$35/hour DOE
