Job Summary

Systems Engineers are responsible for all incoming reactive and proactive service requests. Work performed for this role will take place both onsite and remotely from Commtech’s Service Desk. Systems Engineers will work independently and as part of a team to answer customer requests, urgently analyze technical issues, address escalatiaons, work with the project manager on team related projects, act as point-of-contact for clients, and perform system design and implementation.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Designs, builds, and implements servers, storage, virtualization, and operating systems as well as attached devices; includes investigation, analysis, recommendation, configuration, installation and testing of new server and storage hardware and software.
  • Provides direct support in day-to-day operations on server hardware and operating systems; duties include evaluation of system utilization, monitoring response time and primary support for detection and correction of operational problems.
  • Troubleshoots server issues, working with network measurement hardware and software, as well as physical checking and testing of server and storage devices.
  • Participates in planning design, technical review and implementation for new server and storage infrastructure hardware and operating systems for Windows, VMware, Hyper-V, Citrix, and Linux.
  • Maintains server and storage infrastructure standards.
  • Provides technical consultation, training and support to IT staff as designated by director.
  • Installing, migrating, and managing Windows Server environments (2012/2016/2019)
  • Providing on-site & remote support, with issues ranging from network troubleshooting to firewall implementation and support/maintenance related to Windows Server & Exchange.
  • Communicating effectively with clients via phone and email, responding to all requests and concerns in a timely fashion. Explaining resolutions, answering questions, and providing professional advice as needed.
  • Actively collaborating in the development and maintenance of IT Support processes
  • Traveling to deploy machines, perform staffing functions, or support other customer level efforts.
  • IT Support relating to technical issues involving Microsoft’s core business applications and operating systems.
  • Support of disaster recovery solutions
  • Identifying infrastructure system needs, and providing feedback for development.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Advanced knowledge of Storage Area Network (HP, EMC, DELL) and Cloud Infrastructure (Azure, AWS, Rackspace)
  • Advanced understanding of operating systems, business applications, printing systems, and network systems as well as support tools, techniques, and how technology is used to provide IT services
  • Minimum of 5-10 year's experience working in a technology related field.
  • Advanced knowledge of Active Directory and Exchange
  • Advanced knowledge of Group Policy
  • Advanced knowledge of virtualization (VMware or Hyper-V), clustering, and high availability
  • Firewall configuration and management
  • Advanced Networking configuration and concepts (VLAN, VPN, NAT, routing, wireless)
  • Windows 7, 8, & 10
  • LAN/WAN, DNS, and DHCP
  • Professional certifications based on Mytech training standards: MCSA, MCSE, CCENT, CCNA, CCNP, VCP-DCV
