Summary
About the Position: Sierra Army Depot is located in Herlong CA, a rural town in Northern California. Herlong is approximately 60 miles north of Reno, NV, and 35 miles south of Susanville, CA. The depot serves as an Army Expeditionary Logistical Support Center. Employees work Mon-Thurs, 0630-1700 hrs. Youth Facilities and childcare available. Mass transportation is available at minimal cost. Surrounding area boasts a full range of outdoor sports/recreation activities.

Duties
Ensure proper housekeeping practices are followed in order to prevent possible hazardous waste spills from occurring.
Train inexperienced personnel by giving on-the-job instructions and assistance.
Repair items made of common types of metals or alloys in various shapes, sizes or thickness.
Interpret work from drawings, blueprints, schematics and diagrams.

Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
This position has a requirement to lift up to 45 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
Due to the nature of this position, employees are required to work both planned and unscheduled overtime.
This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
Appointment to position is a one year probationary period unless previously met requirements described in 5 CFR Part 11.While probationary incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.
This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
This position requires proof of welding qualifications in one of the four types of welds: 1) Certified Welder (CW) qualification, 2) GTAW (Gas Tungsten Arc Welding) or TIG Welding qualification.
3) SMAW (Shielded Metal Arc Welding) or Stick Welding qualification, OR 4) FCAW (Flux Core Arc Welding). (Note: You must attach a copy of your welding qualification test record for verification.)
This position requires incumbent to maintain a valid welding certification issued by a nationally recognized welding certification program in accordance with American Welding Society Specification Number AWS D 1.1 requirements.
The primary certification required for the American Welding Society (AWS) D1.1 Structural Welding Code is the AWS Certified Welder credential.
This position requires incumbent to obtain and maintain the American Welding Society (AWS) D1.1 Structural Welding Code certification within one year of employment.
This position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment provided by the employer.

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Domestic Defense Industrial Base (DIB) & Major Range and Test Facilities Base (MRTFB) to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. This announcement is a Direct Hire solicitation. Category rating, veteran's preference, and traditional rating and ranking of applicants do NOT apply for this vacancy.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.
Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Welder ~ without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common which includes analyzing weld specifications against engineering blueprints, validating welding standards for machine programs, and evaluating metal thickness for the precise modification of parts. I can verify labels on containers to prevent waste spills and utilize welding techniques to complete metal production. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
PHYSICAL EFFORTS: The work requires standing, walking, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, crawling and sometimes working in cramped and awkward positions. Regularly lifts, carries and/or holds objects weighing from 20 to 45 pounds; and occasionally lifts objects weighing more than 45 pounds to set up work and equipment needed to complete tasks.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Incumbent may work inside or outside. Inside, they are frequently exposed to drafts, changing temperature and loud noise. Outside, they may work in bad weather, in rain or snow, or in wet or dry areas. Incumbent is frequently exposed to irritation or discomfort from grease, oil, dust, heat, fumes, and hard damp floors or surfaces. Incumbent is frequently exposed to the possibility of receiving cuts, burns, bruises, strains and electrical shock while repairing, positioning, adjusting and moving equipment; and is exposed to the possibility of receiving burns and skin irritations from acids, fluids and lubricants. To reduce the dangers and irritations from the above conditions, the incumbent must follow numerous safety procedures, and wears equipment such as protective eyeglasses, ear devices, hard hats, hard-toe shoes, respirators, gloves and other protective clothing. Some of these safety items may be uncomfortable to wear or use, and may be worn or used for long periods.
