Summary
About the Position: Sierra Army Depot is located in Herlong CA, a rural town in Northern California. Herlong is approximately 60 miles north of Reno, NV, and 35 miles south of Susanville, CA. The depot serves as an Army Expeditionary Logistical Support Center. Employees work Mon-Thurs, 0630-1700 hrs. Youth Facilities and childcare available. Mass transportation is available at minimal cost. Surrounding area boasts a full range of outdoor sports/recreation activities.

Duties
Operate multi-fuel powered motor vehicles on and off the installation.
Determine dock locations for assembling shipments.
Inspect equipment for maintenance reports.
Operate material handling equipment to stack shipping containers.

Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
This position requires incumbent to obtain and maintain a valid state Commercial Driver's License (CDL) certification within one year of employment.
Term employment is subject to a one year trial period. Employees serving a trial period can be removed with limited appeal rights.
This is a Term position scheduled to last 2 years. A term position may be extended to a maximum of eight years depending upon the needs of management.
This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs. Detection of the presence of drugs is warranted.
This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
This position has a requirement to lift up to 40 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
This position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment provided by the employer.
This position is subject to change in shift assignments and to working overtime on short notice.
This position is subject to realignment/movement within the Mission organization due to changing mission requirements.
This position is required to assist (on assignment) other personnel or organizations requiring additional temporary manpower.

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Domestic Defense Industrial Base (DIB) & Major Range and Test Facilities Base (MRTFB) to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.
Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Motor Vehicle Operator ~ without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common which includes operating material handling equipment to stack palletized items in a safe manner, transporting heavy materials over irregular surfaces to load containers, and managing container loads onto rail cars for commercial transit. I can operate truck tractors to transport general supplies within the depot, and stack shipping containers with material handling equipment to ensure accessibility. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
PHYSICAL EFFORT
Physical effort is required to turn the larger and heavier type vehicle, in addition to the smaller vehicles, and to operate the controls. Frequent handling of objects weighing 40 pounds while loading or unloading; making couplings between vehicles such as using heavy chains, bars, hooks, etc., which must be lifted and properly secured. Requires a physical.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Vehicles are operated in all types of traffic and weather on depot and public roads. The operator is exposed to the danger of serious accidents. The operator may be exposed to hazardous materials

Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.

This position requires a 1 year probationary period during which the agency evaluates your fitness and whether your continued employment advances the public interest.
