Summary
About the Position: These positions serve as a Certified Medical Assistant in a Medical Treatment Facility. This position is responsible for clinical and administrative tasks to support doctors, nurses, and patients by assisting with some patient care and office administration.

Duties
Complete screening of patients for Privilege Providers to include recording chief complaint, blood pressure, pulse, respirations, temperature, height, weight, electrocardiograms (EKGs), and other moderately complex tests.
Follow standing orders for dose adjustment of immunization in accordance with Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP), Center for Disease Control (CDC), and other applicable guidelines.
Instruct patients and families on various subjects, such as the proper procedure or following receipt of immunization in accordance with established protocols.
Obtain urine samples, performs urine dipstick, finger sticks for blood glucose, inputs lab requests in the appropriate medical database system.
Assist providers with in-clinic procedures, prepares and positions patient, prepares instruments and supplies, hands supplies to provider and cleans instruments according to instructions for use.
Receive telephone calls, patients, and visitors to the medical facility to determine the nature of the call or visit. Schedule appointments with the appropriate clinic and health care provider.

Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based on occupational risk, regardless of job series.
This position has specific initial background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age on a recurring basis.
Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
A pre-placement medical examination is required.
This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to pre-employment screening and random drug testing. Selectees will be required to consent to participation in random drug urinalysis testing.
Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
This position may require the incumbent to work on any day or shift, including PMs, nights, weekends, holidays, or on an "on call" basis, necessary to meet mission requirements.
Position is designated as Inclement Weather Essential. The incumbent must make every attempt to report for work on time and/or remain on duty during severe weather conditions. lifting up to 50 pounds is required.
Position is designated as Mission Essential. The incumbent will be required to report to work during times of contingency operations, natural disasters, extreme weather or other emergency situations.
Moderate to heavy lifting up to 50 pounds is required.
Must be able to obtain and maintain a current certification in medical assistance (MA-C)

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes direct patient care services administering immunizations and medications ordered by the health care providers; Collecting patient vital signs data; and utilizing electronic health record systems. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).
OR
Education: Four-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with a major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position, (NOTE: You must attach a copy of your transcripts for verification).
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university. Male applicants born after December 31, 1959 must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.

This position requires a 1 year probationary period during which the agency evaluates your fitness and whether your continued employment advances the public interest. Direct Deposit of Pay is required.
