Learn more about this agency Duties If selected for this position, you will join a well-respected team as Information Technology (IT) Specialist in the United States Attorney's Office (USAO) as one of the Eastern District's Litigation Support Specialists with responsibility for providing technical and analytical assistance involving Litigation Support. Typical work assignments will include: Serving as a district Litigation Support Specialist responsible for providing technical and analytical assistance involving Litigation Support (LS) in Information Technology (IT) specialty areas which support the information management needs of the United States Attorney's Office (USAO). The USAO environment includes personal computers, wide and local area networks, operating systems, case management systems and litigation support operations. Modifying standard systems to resolve hardware and software problems, and to adapt precedents or make significant departures from standardized approaches to meet requirements. Coordinating Litigation Support services, including trial preparation and presentation, in response to customer needs to support attorneys in managing and presenting complex case data. Performing tasks associated with the organization, tracking and analyzing items of evidence, data elements, involving novel computer or digital imaging applications. Assisting in the development and implementation of standards and procedures for Litigation Support applications and services to ensure consistency, efficiency, and compliance across Litigation Support operations. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress. Qualifications BASIC REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL APPLICANTS: For all positions individuals must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below: 1. Attention to Detail - Performs testing, quality assurance, configuration, installation, maintenance of resources used for the transmission of information in data, voice and/or video format. Ensures systems availability, functionality, integrity, and efficiency. 2. Customer Service - Provides customer support services including installation, configuration, troubleshooting, customer assistance, and training in response to user requirements. 3. Oral Communication - Coordinates support services in response to customer needs. Develops standards and procures for applications and coordinates efforts with team members. 4. Problem Solving - Ensures the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of data through the planning, analysis, development, implementation, maintenance, and enhancement of information systems security programs, policies, procedures, and tools. In additional to the basic requirements above, applicants must meet at least ONE of the following conditions, as defined below: Specialized Experience, Education, OR a combination of Education and Specialized Experience. Specialized Experience: For the GS-09, you must have one year of experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-07 in the Federal service. Providing litigation support services. Specialized experience is defined as assisting in assessing service and information requirements needed to complete automated litigation support (ALS) projects. This would include knowledge of database creation and utilization using programs such as Nuix, CloudNine Law, Relativity, and Everlaw; and electronic data acquisition and processing, and pre-trial and trial support, including courtroom presentation services using programs such as TrialDirector. OR Education: Successful completion of a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree, or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields previously identified and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks. OR Combination of Specialized Experience and Education: Combinations of successfully completed graduate education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements. In order to qualify based on a combination, graduate education must be in excess of 1 full year. Specialized Experience: For the GS-11, you must have one year of experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-09 in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as the ability to determine the most appropriate principles, practices, and methods to apply in all phases of assignments, including the approach to be taken, degree of intensity, and depth of research in management advisories needed to complete automated litigation support requests. This would include knowledge of database creation and utilization (using programs such as Nuix, CloudNine Law, Relativity, and Everlaw); electronic data acquisition and processing; pre-trial and trial support, including courtroom presentation services (using programs such as OnCue). OR Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree; or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree. NOTE: If you are using education to qualify, you MUST provide transcripts to receive consideration. OR Combination of Specialized Experience and Education: A combination of specialized experience as described above and graduate education as described above which when combined equal 100% of the requirements. (Only graduate education in excess of 2 full years is creditable.) Education: All academic degrees and coursework must be from an accredited or pre-accredited institution. Undergraduate or Graduate Education: must be in one of the following fields: computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks. Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP)- The ICTAP provides eligible displaced Federal competitive service employees with selection priority over other candidates for competitive service vacancies.
