This position is located at Joint Base Lewis-McChord Sports, Fitness and Aquatics Program.

Duties
Serves as a lifeguard for indoor and outdoor pools and works under the direction of the Installation Aquatics Program Manager.
Responsible for lifeguarding guests in attendance at the assigned aquatics facility. Provides maximum pool area surveillance and responds to emergencies; rescues pool patrons and administers first aid as required.
Assists in maintaining pool and area clean and free from any hazards.

Meet qualification/eligibility/background requirements for this position.
A one-year probationary period may be required.
Satisfactorily complete an employment verification (E-Verify) check.
Satisfactory completion of pre-employment checks in accordance with AR215-3, chapter 2, is required. Incumbent requires completion of a Tier 1 background investigation for a Common Access Card for access to federally controlled facilities.
Lifeguard must have good vision (based upon an acceptable standard of 20/40 vision or better, either corrected (with glasses or contacts) or uncorrected) while on duty to effectively recognize all emergencies, incidents, and rule breaking.
Incumbent is subject to completion of a favorable background check/investigation Childcare National Agency Check (CNACI) to determine suitability for this position. All local background checks will be re-verified every 5 years.
An employer referred pre-employment physical examination is required.
Must be able to work a schedule that includes working days, nights, weekends and holidays.
Continuous exposure to sun and prolonged periods of high humidity.
In case of exposure to infection disease, incumbent is required to obtain the Hepatitis B vaccination series within a 24-hour period.
Incumbent is required to follow environmental safeguards and wear personal protective equipment.
May be assigned to irregular duties or when needed for special recreational events and related requirements.
All required certifications must be kept current.
Possess and maintain Lifeguarding certificate and First Aid (American Red Cross or nationally recognized equivalent i.e. Star Guard, YMCA, or ELLIS).
Possess and maintain American Red Cross "Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation for the Professional; CPR for the Professional Rescuer/AED or equivalent (American Heart Association CPR/AED) certificate.
Oxygen Administration "O2 bottles" the O2 Administration certification (American Red Cross "Oxygen Administration or installation offered training (i.e. Fire Dept.) must be obtained within two weeks of reporting for duty.
Must be 16 (sixteen) years old at the time of appointment.
Incumbent is required to follow environmental safeguards and wear personal protective equipment.

A qualified candidate must possess the following:
Possesses and maintains the following certifications:
1. Lifeguarding and First Aid (American Red Cross or nationally recognized equivalent i.e. Star Guard, YMCA, or ELLIS)
2. American Red Cross "Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation for the Professional; CPR for the Professional Rescuer/AED or equivalent (American Heart Association CPR/AED);
3. First Aid. For Water Parks upgrade the certification to: 'Waterpark Lifeguarding and First Aid; CPR/PR/AED' (American Red Cross)
In addition, for facilities that use Oxygen Administration "O2 bottles" the O2 Administration certification (American Red Cross "Oxygen Administration or installation offered training (i.e. Fire Dept.) must be obtained within two weeks of reporting for duty.

Allowances and Differentials
This job is part of a pay-banded system. Sunday premium pay for regularly scheduled employees and night differential pay may be authorized by the Garrison Commander.
Non-foreign overseas allowances, cost of living (COLA), and differentials will not be paid, contingent upon eligibility.
