Summary
The District of Columbia Courts offers internships for students interested in seeking valuable experience in court administration. Interns have the opportunity to make meaningful contributions to the Courts’ mission to protect rights and liberties, uphold and interpret the law, and resolve disputes fairly and effectively in the District of Columbia.
This internship is for Summer 2026.
Duties
This position is an unpaid internship. There are two (2) internship opportunities. The intern's major duties are below:
Legal Intern
Assist the auditor master in processing cases in the areas of probate, civil, tax, and family law.
Attend and participate in evidentiary hearings
Research legal problems and prepare memoranda for the auditor-master
Assist in resolving legal issues affecting the audit and stating of accounts
Assist in the preparation of reports, which include findings of fact and conclusions of law
Accounting Intern
Preparing Accounts
Reviewing financial statements
Determining values of assets and liabilities
Identifying missing documentation
Reviewing federal and local tax filings
Requirements
Conditions of employment
Background and security investigation are required.
Must be at least 18 years old.
Must commit to a minimum of 10 hours per week.

Qualifications
Applicant must be:
A U.S. Citizen or authorized by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Service to intern in the U.S and at least 18 years old.
Must be able to commit a minimum of 10 hours per week.
Actively involved in an undergraduate, graduate or law school program.
Preference will be given to students with majors in Political Science, Social Services, Finance & Accounting majors.
Please note that authorization for the release of your adult criminal record revealing any convictions and forfeitures, and any criminal cases currently pending before the courts is required. If you are selected for the position, a criminal history records check will be conducted.
The incumbent should be an enthusiastic and engaged professional who enjoys working with a diverse group of Court personnel and customers and lives the DC Courts’ values of Accountability, Excellence, Fairness, Integrity, Respect, and Transparency.
Education
To qualify based on education, upload a copy of your college transcript or degree. The transcript must show the name of the college or university, your name, list of courses with credit hours, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking.
