Summary
This position is in the Research & Development (R&D) Service at the VA St Louis Health Care System (VASTLHCS) and will provide a high level of assistance to the Principal Investigator (PI) in coordinating the recruitment, clinical interviewing, data collection and data analysis as well as administrative aspects of assigned studies.

Duties
Major Duties:
Serves as project manager in support of a Principal Investigator (PI) conducting one or more research protocols.
Manages routine day to day research activities such as overseeing data collection and survey interview procedures and oversight of project research assistants.
Maintains complex existing databases and data spreadsheet files.
Meets with project investigators on a regular basis and participates in grant construction for future research proposals.
Trains and guides new research project staff on policies and procedures of the service.
Coordinates study submissions for the PI to the VASTLMCS Institutional Review Board (IRB) of record.
Ensures the accurate collection and completeness of all project data by research staff.
Manages the screening and evaluation of candidates for clinical studies.
Uses objective rating techniques to identify potential candidates for participation in study.
Manages implementation, control and reporting on clinical tests.
Administers or monitors administration of tests and measurements required by project design.
Maintains records, prepares project administrative and statistical reports.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
GS-09 grade level: One year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the federal service); experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) and other characteristics to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization.
Specialized experience includes, but is not limited to:
Maintaining complex existing databases and data spreadsheet files.
Assisting project investigators with ongoing research projects.
Training and guiding new research project staff on policies and procedures.
Managing the screening and evaluation of candidates for clinical studies.
Administering and managing the implementation of clinical tests.
OR
Applicants may substitute education for the experience required for the GS-09 level.
master's or equivalent graduate degree

2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree

LL.B. or J.D., if related

Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at the GS-09 level. To calculate, first identify the percentage of required education you have earned (when substituting, you cannot use the first 60 semester hours that you earned). Then identify the percentage of required experience you possess. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify at the GS-09. For example, an applicant who has 9 semester hours of graduate level education (i.e. 50% of graduate education required) and 6 months of creditable specialized experience (i.e. 50% of the required experience) would equal 100% of the required experience for the position A transcript must be submitted with your application if you are basing all or part of your qualifications on education.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
