These Recreation Fee Technician positions are located at Arches National Park in Moab, Utah. These are all permanent, full-time, year-round positions.

Duties
Major Duties: The incumbent will be responsible for collecting fees in an Entrance Station and campground, and selling, safeguarding, and accounting for accountable property and funds. The incumbent will work closely with visitors, providing basic information and answering questions, solving complaints and resolving conflicts. This position operates electronic cash registers, credit card machines, computers, mail machines, and word processing software.
In addition, the incumbent may perform the following duties:
Assist in the orientation, mentoring, and training of new employees, volunteers, and/or interns in fee collection, and/or deposits.
Troubleshoot issues with fee program related technologies and equipment that include hardware, software, and peripheral devices such as hand-held devices, computers, point-of-sale (POS) equipment, registers, tablets, mobile phones, scanning devices, automated fee machines (AFMs), and reservation systems.
Research and resolve a variety of non-routine problems with reservations made through automated reservation systems that include but are not limited to Recreation.gov and other, automated or manual management platforms. Process reservation arrivals and departures; create, modify, or cancel reservations; monitor inventory, and reservable versus first-come, first-served availability.
Resolve complaints and conflicts and refer issues to a supervisor or higher graded employee when necessary.
Transport recreation fee revenue and/or donations collected from one or more fee collection locations such as entrance stations, visitor centers, donation collection stations and campgrounds to the central remit office or other authorized location. Ensure proper security, internal controls, and accountability of funds during transport.
Physical Demands: This position requires standing for long periods of time, as well as walking, bending, and lifting of moderately heavy items. Mental stress and physical fatigue occur due to the high volume of personal contacts and the responsibility of dealing with large amounts of money. If applicable, extreme physical exertion may be required while performing search and rescue, wildland firefighting, or emergency response duties.
Working Conditions: This position typically works at an entrance station, campground office, fee office, remit office, visitor center, and/or visitor contact station. Work is often performed in small, outdoor structures with open windows which results in exposure to extremes of temperature, rain, snow, wind, and direct sunlight. Park areas may be geographically located in areas of high elevation, rugged terrain, or dense populations. High levels of vehicle noise and emissions may exist during heavy visitation periods. Duties may be performed alone and/or in isolated locations.

DIRECT DEPOSIT: Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program.
INCIDENTAL DRIVING: You may be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties. Prior to your first official motor vehicle operation, and again every year thereafter (or more frequently if management determines such need exists), you will be required to sign an affidavit certifying to your possession of a valid State issued driver's license that is current and has not been revoked, suspended, canceled, or otherwise disqualified in any way to prohibit your operation of a motor vehicle. You will also submit a photocopy of your valid State issued driver's license prior to your first official motor vehicle operation, and again every year, or more frequently if management determines such need exists. Lastly, you may be required to submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that discloses all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you. Please indicate in your application whether you possess a valid State driver's license.
UNIFORM: You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided.
WORK SCHEDULE: You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, and shift work.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
PROBATIONARY PERIOD: If you are a new employee in the Federal government, you will be required to complete a one-year probationary period. Please see "Qualifications" section below for more detailed information.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement--unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience.
To qualify for this position at the GS-5 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: At least one full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-4 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). Your resume must show hours per week worked AND the to/from dates in month/year format for each position. This specialized experience includes activities such as:
handling, tracking, or depositing monies.
using software programs to maintain financial/accounting data (such as fee and stock data).
performing fee collection, accounting, or financial duties.
using tools or equipment (e.g., cash registers, calculators, etc.) to make sales transactions.
and/or ensuring accountability of funds and accurate financial records.
-OR-EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least 4 years of education above high school (120 semester hours or 180 quarter hours) leading to a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. If using education to qualify, you must upload a legible copy of your college transcripts that includes your name, credit hours, and degree awarded, when you submit your application for this position-
OR-COMBINATION: Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. For example, 6 months of the specialized experience described in A above (50% of the experience requirement), and 3 years of college study from an accredited institution (75% of the qualifying education) as specified in B above, equals greater than 100% of the total requirement. If using education to qualify, you must upload a legible copy of your college transcripts that includes your name, courses, and credit hours completed, when you submit your application for this position.
Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. In order to count volunteer work, that experience should include hours per week worked AND the to/from dates in month/year format.
Any individual who is currently holding, or has held within the previous 52 weeks, a General Schedule position under non-temporary appointment in the competitive or excepted service, must meet time-in-grade requirements (must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade or equivalent in the Federal service); with few exceptions as outlined in 5 CFR 300.603(b).

PROBATIONARY PERIOD:
As a condition of employment for accepting this position, you will be required to serve a 1-year probationary period during which your fitness and whether your continued employment advances the public interest will be evaluated. This probationary period is an extension of the appointment process and therefore requires the agency to determine if continued employment would advance the public interest, meet the organization goals and mission of the agency, and/or otherwise promote the efficiency of the service. Education
To qualify based on education, you must submit a legible copy of transcripts from an accredited institution with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking. Transcripts do not need to be official, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work.
If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that your education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
Additional information
This position will be filled under the Field Unit Local Hiring Authority. Eligibility is limited to applicants who reside within the defined local commuting area at the time of application. For this announcement, the local commuting area is the area from which individuals can reasonably commute to the duty station under normal conditions. The defined vicinity for this position is within a 120 miles radius of Moab,Utah. Residency will be verified during the hiring process.
