Summary This position is organizationally located in the Peace Corps, Office of Health Services (OHS), Office of Medical Services (OMS) and serves as Director of OMS. The incumbent reports to the OHS Associate Director and requires knowledge of high-level medical policy in providing oversight to the medical care and services provided to Invitees, Trainees, Volunteers, and returned Volunteers. Learn more about this agency Duties The Supervisory Medical Officer (Direct Hire) performs the following major duties: Serves as an expert in the planning, monitoring, and administration of inspections, investigations, programs, or projects that encompass the most critical work of the Office of Medical Services and its Volunteer Health Care Program. Manages financial and personnel resources to achieve program goals and maintain quality services Provides medical expertise and leadership to medical staff at headquarters and abroad. Performs the administrative and human resource management functions relative to the staff supervised. Effects disciplinary measures as appropriate to the authority delegated in this area. Convenes special medical boards such as those required to review Invitee medical clearance and medical evacuation decisions Requirements Conditions of employment Applicants selected for this position are subject to the following Conditions of Employment: You must be a U.S. citizen and at least 18 years old. Males born after December 31, 1959, must be registered with Selective Service (see www.sss.gov). Prior to employment, Peace Corps will review records for Returned Peace Corps Volunteers and former employees, as required by statutes 5 USC 3322 and 22 USC 2507b. You must submit a signed statement acknowledging adherence to the Peace Corps Conditions of Employment before your first day. You must obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance You must file a financial disclosure report. A one-year probationary period may be required. This requirement is not applicable to current agency US Direct Hire employees who have completed a probationary period or current Experts who have served for more that 12 months. This position is eligible for additional reappointments, per 22 USC §2506 (a)(8). The initial appointment is a term of five years and subsequent reappointments are in terms of up to five years. Basic Requirement for the 0602 Job Series (FP-01 / GS-15 Level): In order to qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements described below: Degree: Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine or equivalent from a school in the United States or Canada. This degree must have been accredited by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association (external link); Association of American Medical Colleges (external link); Liaison Committee on Medical Education (external link); Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association (external link), or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (external link) at the time the degree was obtained. Degree from Foreign Medical School: A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school must provide education and medical knowledge equivalent to accredited schools in the United States. Evidence of equivalency to accredited schools in the United States is demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (external link), a fifth pathway certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the United States and graduate education in a foreign country, or successful completion of the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination. Licensure For all grade levels and positions, applicants must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. For GS-15 -- 5 years of graduate training in the specialty of the position to be filled or equivalent experience and training. Specialized Experience at the FP-01 (GS-15) Level: To qualify for this position at the FP-01 level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower level in the normal line of progression, FP-02 or GS-14. This experience must be directly related to the work of the position and must have equipped you with the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to successfully perform the duties of the role. Specialized experience includes: Providing intellectual leadership and focus to develop health services policies, initiate dialogue, interventions, and agency mechanisms related to the support of the health and medical needs of all staff; Managing financial and personnel resources to achieve program goals, maintain quality services and establish long range strategic plans for an office; Performing administrative and human resources management functions relative to supervised staff; and Supporting external evaluators in their assessment of the quality of the agency's healthcare systems. Peace Corps Information: This is a federal civilian position in the Excepted Service, and the incumbent will serve as a member of the Foreign Service.
