Summary
Health Technician serves as a Dermatology instruments and equipment to perform diagnostic testing and preliminary work ups prior to the Veteran seeing the Dermatology Provider. Assists in managing clinic flow and is responsible for reusable medical equipment disinfection.

Duties
Duties will include but are not limited to:
Identify Patients who may require special preparation.
Support Medical and Surgical Dermatology and Rheumatology providers and nursing staff.
Provide Patient education and information regarding surgical procedures.
Alert providers of schedule/procedure changes.
Discuss procedures with Dermatology surgeons.
Prepare exam rooms and room Patients; triage scheduled Patients
Prepare, organize, maintain sterile field for dermatology surgery.
Assist with Phototherapy treatment for patients.
Maintain high quality procedures for obtaining surgical images using camera.
Assist the Dermatology surgeon: prepping, positioning, suctioning, holding retractors, and cutting sutures.
Maintain high fidelity procedures for management of dermatology specimens within the clinic, labeling and prepare dermatology specimens for transfer to pathology department.
Maintain equipment and work areas -Dermatology surgery and medical clinic areas, assess medical and surgical equipment needs, and maintain supplies and materials.
Other duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Monday to Friday 8:30 am to 5:00 pm., Work schedule subject to change based on agency needs.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 04/13/2026.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05 and for a GS-07 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-06. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade.
Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
Individual Occupational Requirement: Candidates must meet the following as well as the specialized experience in the next section. In addition to the above Individual Occupational Requirement, you must meet the specialized experience as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization.
The Specialized Experience for this position includes but is not limited to: Completing clinical reminders, obtaining patient health history, chief complaints, medication history, and identification of health-related conditions that may impact the patient's health status; assisting outpatient licensed staff with the delivery of care to patients with complex, specialized, and potentially life-threatening situations; assisting in behavioral/psychiatric situations in an outpatient setting; instruments and equipment to perform diagnostic testing and preliminary work ups prior to the Veteran seeing the Dermatology Provider. Assists in managing clinic flow and is responsible for reusable medical equipment disinfection. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements: The work involves extended periods of bending, standing and walking. Generally, the work requires recurring physical exertion with assisting patients.
