Summary As a seniorIndustrial Hygienist with the Environmental and Health Services Office, you will develop, implement, and maintain Center-level environmental and occupational health programs to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations and NASA requirements. You will maintain oversight of the Center's environmental and occupational health programs and support administration of the occupational medical clinic. Duties assigned at lower grade levels will be of more limited scope, performed with less independence and limited complexity; duties will be commensurate with the grade of selected employee. Maintains oversight of Federal regulatory and Agency-level requirements; develops, implements, and maintains Center-level IH/HP and Occupational Health programs to ensure compliance and provide a safe workplace. Provides oversight for Center compliance with hazardous materials management and chemical use restrictions in accordance with the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) and ensures proper implementation of the hazardous materials information tracking. Provides oversight on the Health Physics (HP) site programs, ensuring employee safety at work. Supports the administration of the occupational medical clinic and employee assistance programs for the Center. Serves as a technical lead, responsible for oversight and coordination of the Center's Industrial Hygiene (IH), HP and Ergonomics committees. Represents the Center on NASA agency working groups (IH, HP, Food Safety, Ergonomics, and the agency’s hazardous materials) and advisory panels to include the NASA Institutional Safety and Health Board. Manages and oversees the food sanitation program for the Center. Coordinates the development, selection, and oversight of Government-provided Environmental and Occupational Health services, ensuring regulatory and policy requirements are captured in contractor Performance Work Statements. Qualifications Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. To qualify for GS-13, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level: Implementing industrial hygiene practices to identify occupational hazards and recommend mitigation measures in support of workplace safety requirements; Applying Health Physics practices to evaluate radiation hazards and provide recommendations to support employee safety and regulatory compliance; Supporting occupational medical clinic operations and employee assistance programs to promote workforce health and ensure adherence to established policies. To qualify for GS-14, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 level: Leading or overseeing industrial hygiene programs that identify occupational hazards and implement mitigation strategies to ensure compliance with federal regulations and Agency requirements; Providing oversight and technical direction for Health Physics programs to ensure compliance with radiation safety requirements and protection of personnel; Overseeing occupational medical clinic operations and employee assistance programs to support workforce health and ensure compliance with applicable policies and standards. Education Basic Requirements: You must have successfully completed a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree that included a major in industrial hygiene, occupational health sciences, occupational and environmental health, toxicology, safety sciences, or related science. OR Have successfully completed a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's degree that included a major in engineering, physical science, or life science that included 12 semester hours in chemistry, including organic chemistry, and 18 additional semester hours of courses in any combination of chemistry, physics, engineering, health physics, environmental health, biostatistics, biology, physiology, toxicology, epidemiology, or industrial hygiene. OR Certification from the Board for Global EHS Credentialing (formerly American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH)). U.S. degrees must have been awarded from colleges or universities that are accredited by recognized accrediting organizations.
