Summary About the Position: This position is with the Nutrition Care Division, Production and Service Branch located at Tripler Army Medical Center, on the Island of Oahu, HI. Learn more about this agency Duties Perform the complete cycle of centralized patient room service functions. Assemble and portion assigned tray items (prepared main course, hot side items, condiments, salads, desserts, etc.) in accordance with (IAW) patient diet orders. Transport food carts to wards and deliver trays directly to patients IAW established script and standard operating procedures. Take food temperatures to ensure hot and cold foods are maintained at proper temperatures IAW with these standards. Rotate foods on "first in, first out" cycle to prevent spoilage. Clean equipment and work area which includes, mopping, sweeping, cleaning dishes and disposing of food waste, cleaning patient transport carts. Requirements Conditions of employment Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation. Position is designated as Mission Essential. Incumbent will be required to ensure continuity of Tripler Army Medical Center's operations during ALL hazard's emergency situations. This position requires successful completion of pre-placement and annual medical examinations. Shift work is required, or a change in work shift may be necessary. Hours of work encompass fluctuating tours of duty to include evenings, nights, weekends and holidays. Work schedules include: 0430 - 1300 and 1030-1900. This position may require overtime work. This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is therefore subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations. This position may require lifting and moving up to 45 lbs. One year probationary period may be required. Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based on occupational risk, regardless of job series. Work involves constant walking, pushing, standing, and frequent talking, stooping, bending, and lifting. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work areas are often uncomfortably warm and noisy, e.g., noisy kitchen and dishwashing areas. Worker is exposed to the danger of minor cuts, bruises, and burns from equipment. There is danger of slipping on floors, which are wet from daily mopping or where food or beverages have been spilled. Work is performed on non-resilient tile flooring. Incumbent is exposed to extreme temperature changes in moving from hot kitchen areas to walk-in cold storage areas. Workers may be exposed to hostility or other unnatural reactions from patients, along with potential unpleasant sights and smells of patient care areas. Works under established time deadlines. Education Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
