About the Position: This position is assigned to Defense Health Agency Indo-Pacific, Directorate of Executive - Hospital Safety, located at Tripler Army Medical Center (TAMC) in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Duties
Serve as the Safety and Occupational Health Program Specialist for a Medical Treatment Facility (MTF) within the Defense Health Agency (DHA).
Plan, implement, administer, inspect and evaluate the organization's Safety and Occupational Health Program throughout its facilities.
Conduct safety training and provide safety oversight of healthcare facility operations.
Investigate accidents and manage accident regulatory recordkeeping responsibilities.
Ensure safety review and risk assessment of healthcare facility operation plans/policies to provide technical advice and incorporate safety countermeasures.
Serve as the technical authority for the organization's safety and occupational health issues.

This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations (natural or man-made disaster) the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled.
This position has a requirement to lift up to 30lbs. in the regular performance of duties. Are you willing and able to meet the lifting requirement?
Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based on occupational risk, regardless of job series.
This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.
Appointment to this position is subject to a background investigation to determine your suitability for Federal employment.
Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 11. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.
This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes conducting workplace inspections for compliance with established safety and occupational health standards in a healthcare or dental facility; conducting investigations of incidents involving workplace safety; and developing safety and occupational health programs, policies, or procedures for healthcare or dental facilities in accordance with government regulatory guidance.
This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).
OR
Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M. with a major study in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene), or Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study from among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology. (You must attach a copy of your transcripts).
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages. (You must attach a copy of your transcripts).

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university. This position requires a 1 year probationary period during which the agency evaluates your fitness and whether your continued employment advances the public interest.
