Duties
You will position firefighting vehicles in consideration of external factors (e.g., wind direction, sources of water, hazards from falling structures, location of armament on aircraft).
You will inspect hazardous material equipment and supplies for operational readiness.
You will perform structural firefighting and rescue duties in buildings, housing units, or confined spaces to eliminate and control fires.
You will survey an incident from a safe location to identify whether hazardous materials have been released.
You will establish communication with an ambulance or hospital to relay patient information.

Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.

You will be required to sign the Statement of Understanding for Overseas Employment acknowledging receipt and understanding of the statement of living and working conditions for this location.
May be required to obtain a VISA dependent on the overseas country's laws/regulations.
Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Passport.
If eligible for permanent change of station, the appointee will be required to sign a transportation agreement to establish a Government time in service requirement of 12 months.
This is an overseas position. You will be subject to and must be able to satisfy the overseas requirements of the 26Jul12 DODI 1400.25 V1230: http://www.esd.whs.mil/Portals/54/Documents/DD/issuances/140025/140025v1230.pdf
You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
Position is covered as a primary/rigorous position under the Civil Service Retirement System 5 U.S.C. 8336 (c) and Federal Employees Retirement System 5 U.S.C. 8412 (d).
Qualifications
This position requires the incumbent to possess the following certifications:
Driver Operator Pumper,
Driver Operator Aerial,
Firefighter I/II,
HAZMAT Awareness,
HAZMAT Operations,
HAZMAT Technician,
National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT); Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)
Copies of certifications MUST be submitted at the time of application to verify eligibility.
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of qualifying experience in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Qualifying experience must demonstrate the following:1) Controlling or extinguishing fires as a member of an organized military, industrial, volunteer, or governmental fire department/brigade;2) Performing rescue operations;3) Detecting, reducing, or eliminating potential fire hazards;4) Controlling hazardous materials incidents;5) Driving and operating firefighting vehicles; and6) Performing non-invasive emergency medical procedures. Education
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: If you are a dual citizen, please identify the countries of citizenship. The NATO Status of Forces Agreement prohibits employment in the U.S. Civilian Component in a host nation of any person who holds dual citizenship of the U.S. and the host nation. For example: A person who holds both Italian and U.S. citizenship may not be employed in the U.S. Civilian Component in Italy; however, that person is not prohibited by the NATO Status of Forces Agreement from employment in the U.S. civilian Component in another NATO host nation of which (s)he does not hold citizenship.
The employee is required to work a rotating work schedule which includes nights, weekends, holidays, and is subject to mandatory overtime and recall.
The employee is required to take and pass an occupational physical prior to employment, and then an annual occupational health examination thereafter, as a condition of employment.
The employee is required to report for duty during natural disasters and other emergency situations as directed by the Fire Chief.
The employee must wear a uniform and safety apparel in accordance with established policies and procedures.
This is a Testing Designated Position. The employee is subject to random drug testing.
This position requires the employee to work under adverse environmental conditions and falls under the respiratory protection program and hearing conservation program.
The work requires the employee to drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate, valid State driver's license is required.
Position requires the ability to discern colors, contrast, and depth. In accordance with NFPA 1582 and Office of Personnel Management (OPM) standards.
Firefighters must be physically fit at all times in order to perform the duties of their position to the best of their abilities. As such, all operationally based 0081 series employees shall participate in a Wellness and Fitness Program established by their Fire Department, in order to maintain a level of health and fitness necessary for performing their job functions. [IAW NFPA 1583 Standard on Health-Related Fitness Programs for Fire Fighters and DoDI 6055.6 F&ES]
Certain incentives (such as Recruitment, Relocation or Student Loan Repayment) may be authorized to eligible selectees. A relocation incentive is generally a single payment intended to offset some of the relocation costs experienced by the selectee. A relocation incentive may be authorized.
Term Appointment Information
This position is being filled as a Term Appointment, Not to Exceed (NTE) 3 years. The initial appointment may be extended without further competition up to a maximum of 5 years in accordance with OPM regulations and Department of the Navy policy.
This position is time-limited and does not confer permanent status in the competitive service. Employment beyond the not-to-exceed date is not guaranteed.
Individuals selected for a term appointment are not eligible for non-competitive conversion to a permanent position unless specifically authorized. Service in this position counts toward retirement and benefits eligibility; however, it does not establish competitive status.
For overseas positions, employees are subject to applicable tour lengths, transportation agreements, and return rights limitations.
