Summary About the Position: Rotates among the various duty assignments in the Central Material Supply (CMS). Assignments include decontamination, sterilization, instrument and cart preparation, equipment maintenance and supply storage and issue in the Department of Surgery located at Ft. Bragg, NC. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation Learn more about this agency Duties Reassembles medical equipment, including complex equipment such as cell centrifuges, which require skilled careful positioning of parts and the completed elimination of dust particles or lint from the chambers. Advises medical personnel on problems that arise in connection with the use of the equipment. Assures gross contamination has been removed, instruments function properly, and determines the correct packaging for instrument sterilization. Monitors operation of various sterilizers in accordance with established parameters. Assembles and loads a wide variety of instrument trays and sets according to schedules and fills special and emergency request for supplies. Carefully selects and positions the items. Folds linen and assembles linen packs assuring proper quantity and arrangement of linen, sponges, syringes, sterile indicators and other items. Checks for damaged or missing items and arranges for replacements, maintenance, or repair as needed. Requirements Conditions of employment Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation. Pre-appointment physical is required due to lifting of weight up to 50lbs and annual medical examinations. Tour of duty may be on revolving schedule for days, evenings, nights, and weekends. This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident. This position is covered by Health Affairs Policy 97006, 23 Oct 96 the position requires the employee to obtain Hepatitis B immunizations and Tuberculin testing unless exempt by physician. The Incumbent will be required to wear and use personal protective equipment as required and provided by the employer. This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is therefore subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations. This position requires you to obtain and maintain a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI) Background Investigation. This position requires a Qualified Typist. This position may require the incumbent to perform temporary duty travel up to 5% for the purpose of training. Qualifications Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/ or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which maintaining supply level for sterilized operating room instruments and equipment used in peri-operative/surgical services; utilizing automated supply and accounting system to order equipment; and reassembling and sterilizing medical equipment. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05). OR Education: A half year (i.e., 9 semester hours) of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as operating room technician, medical instrument technician, or medical supply technician. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 9. Add the two percentages. Education FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
