Summary
This position is part of the National Archives and Records Administration, George W Bush Presidential Library. The incumbent performs technical work that supports access to archival holdings and control over records. The technician will perform standard tasks associated with digitizing a wide variety of materials.

Duties
As an Archives Technician (Digitization), you will:
Operate one or more digitizing devices to capture image files of a range of materials that may include, but are not limited to, loose and bound paper documents of all sizes, photographic prints, and film and three-dimensional objects
Select duplicating system settings and appropriate equipment for the job to scan textual records. Modify Electronic media as necessary to ensure the best product possible
Submit image files to automated image processing applications, or may perform basic, predefined image processing to individual files. The technician will insert supplied metadata into software tools or image files directly as needed.
Use a variety of software applications to operate digitizing equipment, process image files, conduct quality checks, and enter data. Communicate with colleagues and submit administrative information.

Conditions of employment
A probationary or trial period may be required. Continued employment is contingent upon supervisory certification that continued employment will benefit the Federal Service; the certification will occur no less than 30 days before the end of the probationary/trial period.
Must successfully complete a background investigation.
Complete a Declaration for Federal Employment to determine your suitability for Federal employment, at the time requested by the agency.
If you are a male applicant born after December 31, 1959, certify that you have registered with the Selective Service System or are exempt from having to do so.
Go through a Personal Identity Verification (PIV) process that requires two forms of identification from the Form i-9. Federal law requires verification of the identity and employment eligibility of all new hires in the U.S.
Obtain and use a Government-issued charge card for business-related travel.
The work is mostly sedentary, however the incumbentmust be physically able to perform the duties of this position. Physical demands may include climbing caster-equipped ladders, maneuvering on catwalks, moving heavy carts of records, and handling boxes of records stored up to 15 feet above the floor and typically weighing 50 pounds, occasionally more. The work may also demand considerable standing, walking, stooping, bending and lifting.
The work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as office or warehouse, e.g., use of safe working practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, observance of fire regulations. The work area is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated. Incumbent will be handling some aged records that are dusty and fragile. Some work is done in materials storage areas, processing areas, and research rooms.

Qualifications
You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
Specialized Experience for the GS-07 grade level is defined as one year of experience at the GS-06 grade level, or equivalent, that is typically in or related to the position and which equipped the candidate with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position. Specialized experience for this position is defined as experience:
Performing archival or related functions. (Examples may include monitoring, pulling and refilling records, reference, and researcher assistance) AND
Converting textual records into digital formats AND
Applying regulations, policies, or procedures to accomplish work assignments.

This job does not have an education qualification requirement.
