Summary As a Laundry Worker in the Medical Center to perform a wide variety of rotated, standard, related practices and procedures to maintain the availability of linens and uniforms in a visually clean and aseptic condition. Learn more about this agency Duties Duties: Works in a safe manner, adhering to established safety policies and reporting any hazardous or potential hazardous conditions to management Ensures continuous and safe operations; incumbent will follow all infection control, OSHA requirements and Joint commission guidelines when staging washed carts, loading and unloading washer/ extractors, small washers, dryers, and garment finisher. Safeguards textile equipment, materials and supplies for his/her assigned area. Assists with the test piece program by delivering the test piece to the washman after each load processed. Operates side equipment, including garment finisher, small washer, large and small dryers, spreader/feeder/ironer/folder, stacker conveyor, small and large piece folders, and how to operate the light table. Responsible for correct operations of the dryers, small washer, pneumatic lift system, garment finisher and timely delivery of finished textiles when required. Serves as an operator Operates the lift and rail system to correctly direct the proper linen pulled from washer/extractors to appropriate rail storage, to be dried or ironed Selects the correct linen to be dried to ensure linen flow on the production floor is continuous Understands various chemical agents used to ensure they are properly used to prevent damage to linens, uniforms and any other textiles processed. Inspectors and packages for all Operating and Sterile Procedure linen Understands Infection Control measures are to be maintained between soiled side operations and clean textiles, and uses proper aseptic techniques including proper hand hygiene. Responds to changing linen requirements, as necessary Read and understand written direction, to be able to carry out VA policies and procedures as they are related to the job. Receiving, weighing, and marking soiled linen and apparel for transport Receives and adheres to specific instructions for each new task. Processing uniforms and scrubs by operating steam tunnel and assures availability for uniform and scrub issue areas. Accurately fill linen orders for distribution by neatly placing linen items on designated racks or carts and by following established distribution schedules Uses proper handling, dilution and selection of chemicals, tools and equipment for assigned duties Loads linen carts onto automated delivery bases and program computer system for dispatch to appropriate location following established schedules. Unloads linen carts from automated delivery bases and deliver to designated delivery locations. Work Schedule: TBD (6:00a-2:30p / 7a-3:30p/ 8:00a-4:30p / 2:30p-11:00p; subject to change based on the needs of the facility. Position Description Title/PD#: Laundry Worker/PD03742-A Physical Requirements: Most tasks require varying degrees of muscular effort and hand-to-eye coordination to assure safe and efficient use of equipment and supplies. Work requires frequent bending or stooping, prolonged walking, and standing. Frequently lifts laundry items weighing up to 25 lbs. and occasionally items weighing over 30 lbs. Work requires visual acuity to assure completion of tasks in acceptably clean and aseptic manner. Working Conditions: Generally works in a well-ventilated, airconditioned, and well-lighted area. He/She follows predetermined work procedures but must determine independently when a job is done well. However, he/she is constantly exposed to potential contamination and unclean surroundings and must be able to understand and follow procedures. The work environment demands the ability to focus. Must be able to work independently and under stressful conditions.
