This National Guard position is for a NONDESTRUCTIVE TESTER (Title 32), Position Description Number D2320000 and is part of the OK 138th Fighter Wing, Oklahoma Air National Guard.

Duties
This position is located in the Nondestructive inspection section of an Air National Guard aircraft Maintenance Group, Maintenance Squadron, Fabrication Flight. This is an Air National Guard (ANG) Dual Status Technician position requiring military membership, compatible military skill assignment, and classification. The primary purpose of this position is to inspect aerospace weapon systems components and support equipment for structural integrity using nondestructive inspection methods and performs fluid analysis.
MAJOR DUTIES:
Determines test method, and prepares fluids and parts for nondestructive inspection. Interprets nondestructive inspection test results, and provides information about defects to repair center. Performs Oil Spectrometry process and analyzes wear metal content on engine lubricating oil and other fluids, and recommends corrective action. Establishes radiation areas for radiographic operations. Computes and monitors personal exposure areas for radiographic operations, and monitors personnel exposure data.
Performs nondestructive inspection on structures, components, and systems. Detects flaws such as cracks, delamination, voids, processing defects, and heat damage using penetrant, eddy current, magnetic particle, radiographic, optical, Thermography, Shearography and ultrasonic test equipment. Determines metallurgical information of components according to alloy, temper, conductivity, and associated factors. May also serve as Alternate TMDE Monitor, PCAMS, Alternate Equipment Custodian, Alternate Supplies Manager, Alternate Hazardous Waste Monitor, Alternate Hazardous Communication Monitor, Alternate Spill Prevention Monitor, Alternate FOD Monitor, Alternate Radiation Monitor, Alternate Technical Order Monitor, Alternate Precious Metals Monitor, and Training Monitor.
Applies magnetic particle and/or liquid penetrant inspection to detect and interpret the relevancy of flaws in a variety of parts. Parts are numerous and varied, and are of ferrous and/or nonferrous metals, and consist of surface or near surface discontinuities in the metal; e.g., fatigue cracks, welding overlap, cold shut, or surface cracks that may stem from internal flaws, such as pipes, inclusions, or forging lap. Sets up each different liquid penetrant or magnetic particle method following Technical Orders (TOs), Time Change Technical Orders (TCTOs), or Work Control Documents (WCDs), or Nondestructive Testing Instructions (NDIs). Ensures the equipment and solutions are in compliance with technical guides and quality standards before performing tests and must submit an AFTO 22 if defects in TO's exist or an AF 107 if there is no technical data to accompany the task. Performs all processing tasks; i.e., dipping items in penetrant or magnetic particle baths, washing and drying, magnetizing and demagnetizing ferrous items, and subjecting them to Ultra Violet Black light to detect and evaluate flaws, their nature, size, scope, and exact location. If items are repairable, records test results, and marks defect areas and dimensions. Initiates WCDs that specify the needed repairs. Re-inspects all repairs performed on each component upon their return to the shop.
Uses and maintains tools. Maintains bench stock levels of parts, materials, tools, and equipment at prescribed levels. Uses tools and equipment associated with testing being conducted in the shop, as well as hand and power tools to do the work.
Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations to maintain a safe and clean work environment. Uses and assures proper fit of required Personal Protective Equipment and clothing. Follows federal and state rules when storing, using, handling, labeling, and disposing of hazardous materials and waste in accordance with environmental standards. Performs clean-up duties, such as cleaning equipment, sweeping, straightening, and lining up tools and other property in the assigned area.
Maintains records and documents actions. Manually documents actions taken or enters information into an automated system. Obtains required coordination and signatures.

This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement.
Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.
Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.
Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the National Guard in the military grade listed in this announcement.
Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
May be required to successfully complete a trial period.
Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
May be required to possess a valid operator’s license to drive a motor vehicle to and from work sites.
May be required to obtain an appropriate clearance to perform the work in sensitive areas.
Technicians are required to perform annual task evaluations on each inspection duty in order to maintain certification.
Upon accepting this position, the employee may be required to serve up to a two-year probationary period.
Qualifications
MILITARY GRADES: E-1 through E-6
GENERAL EXPERIENCE:
Experience or training which demonstrates the ability to set up and operate test equipment, use test apparatus to apply tests to material or products, record readings, observe and record established reactions, and classify according to defined categories.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:
Experience or training in using ultrasonic and/or eddy current inspection techniques to observe, measure, and detect discontinuities and flaws. Experience classifying test results, identifying material deficiencies and recommending courses of action for items of equipment. Experience recommending engine components to be inspected and forwarding results to the appropriate authority. Experience performing scheduled inspections of testing equipment ensuring compliance with established technical regulations and procedures.
Knowledge of the full range of characteristics of metals identification; wear metals identification and content; metal discontinuity and flaw detection; operation and maintenance of nondestructive test and oil analysis equipment; radiological safety and radiation monitoring procedures; technical orders and directives; and proper handling, use, and disposal of hazardous waste and materials.
Knowledge of the various shapes, sizes, and density of flaw indications in parts, components, and materials being tested.
Knowledge of safety regulations and procedures.
Ability to identify, locate, and measure hidden and subsurface flaws, corrosion, and separation in bonded and honeycomb structures; integrity of welds; precision dimensional and volume measurements; and hardness of materials.
Ability to follow technical orders engineering drawings, technical data, workbooks, and NDI literature to determine inspection requirements and area(s) to be examined.
Ability to make independent determinations during the inspection process to select the inspection technique required and the calibration procedure; and evaluate defects, their nature, size, scope, and exact locations, and independently determine if the article should be accepted or rejected.
Ability to plan and lay out work from blueprints, sketches, drawings, specifications and work orders.
In addition to the knowledge and skills found at the journeyman level, the ability to plan and accomplish a functional shop maintenance program is essential. Requires skill in surveillance and troubleshooting techniques and has the ability to correctly analyze findings given the equipment and Technical orders at hand. Technician may be required to pass higher level education for follow-on training for new processes or inspection techniques.
Ability to specify needed repair processes and/or modification of repairable products.
May require addition certification based on the new advanced processes with the Generation four and five Aircraft (i.e. Laser Shearography, Thermography, and specialized ultrasonic methods).
Education
There is no substitution of education for specialized experience for this position.
