Summary This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for positions in support of the safety of the public, law enforcement, or first response within the DoD designated by the Secretary as a shortage category or critical need occupation to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: Serves as a Police Officer (CLEO) within the Directorate of Emergency Services engaged in Conservation Law Enforcement duties. Duties Serve as a Police Officer (CLEO) engaged in Conservation Law Enforcement duties. Investigate violations of environmental and fish and game laws. Conduct various safety, search, and rescue services. Conduct community relations activities, briefings, tours in order to enhance appreciation of the wildlife. Promote public awareness of fish, game laws and regulations. Requirements Conditions of employment Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation. Obtain and maintain a SECRET level security clearance. Successfully graduated from the United States Army Civilian Police Academy; or successfully graduate within 12 months of hire date; or is a current employee and is considered grandfathered IAW AR 190-56. Successfully graduated from the USAMPS Conservation Law Enforcement Officer Course within one year of assignment. Incumbent must be able to successfully pass training, certification and qualification requirements related to law enforcement work functions as prescribed by policy, regulations or statutes. Incumbent must meet the requirements of AR 190-56. This is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) and is covered by the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Program. IAW AR 600-85, a DA 5019R Condition of Employment must be signed for mandatory drug testing. The 1996 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968 covers this position. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor or felony crime of domestic violence are not eligible for this position. Incumbent in this position is designated as Mission Essential (IAW DODI 3024.42 and DTM 17-004)position during Inclement Weather Conditions or other designed/identified emergency conditions. Incumbent must possess a valid state driver’s license and be able to obtain and maintain a government motor vehicle operator’s license. Hours of work is subject to irregular and/or rotating shifts, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays. Incumbent is required to work overtime as directed and is subject to recall for emergency overtime. Occasional Official Temporary Duty (TDY) may be required. Incumbent is subject to possible civil action due to improper exercises of authority or injudicious use of force in the apprehension or detention of individuals. In accordance with AR 690-11, this position has been designated as "Key" and shall not be vacated during a national emergency or mobilization as doing so would seriously impair the capability of the organization to function effectively. Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 11. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights. Qualifications Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized experience: A Police Officer (CLEO) planning, coordinating, and conducting the enforcement program of Federal, State, and installation fish and wildlife regulations, mandating safe hunting and boating activities, conducting marine patrols, conducting surveillance, interviewing and interrogating suspects, collecting evidence into violations of Federal fish and wildlife and environmental laws, enforcing limits of restricted water and land boundaries, and providing information to parties in support of environmental research programs. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). Education Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. Additional information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. One year trial/probationary period may be required. Direct Deposit of Pay is required.
