Summary

Duties
Duties for this position typically include :
Establishes, revises, or reviews policies, procedures, mission objectives, and organization design for the staff, as necessary to eliminate work problems or barriers to mission accomplishment, promote team building, implement quality improvements, or in response to concerns with regulatory compliance and/or customer requirements.
Provides administrative and policy direction in terms of broadly defined missions and/or functions of the Environmental Management Directorate. Incumbent independently defines objectives, interprets disseminated polices, and determines effect on environmental program needs, plans, and designs.
Provides strategic guidance, develops policy, manages resources, and coordinates with major commands, regulatory agencies, and mission partners to support readiness while safeguarding environmental stewardship.
Builds, sustains, and leverages strategic partnerships to enable mission support objectives.
Interacts with federal land managers, legislators, and governor's staff at the local, states, and national levels.
Advocates Air Force policy in all 50 States and overseas to all stakeholders including offices of federal regulatory and land management agencies, other DoD services, state and local governments, all Native American tribes, and non-government agencies.
Establishes, develops, and maintains effective working relationships with DoD, AF, MAJCOM, Wing leadership and personnel, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) HQ and Regions, state regulatory agencies, and other organizations to ensure mission effectiveness.
Performs the Department of WAR (DOW) & AF Regional Environmental Coordinator (REC) Roles per DoDI 4715.02.
Educates State and Federal agencies on the military's operational/environmental needs, priorities, and concerns.
Monitors and engages in state legislation and rulemaking processes and determine/negate impacts to DOW missions/operations.
Builds and communicates coordinated DAF and DOW positions on issues important to military sustainment.
Develops, maintains, and coordinates partnerships to promote long-term sustainability of DOW missions.
Advises and assists DoW on regional, state, and local actions affecting DOW missions.
Provides executive-level summaries on regional activities, success stories, and issues related to EPA regions.

The position is subject to provisions of the DoD Priority Placement Program.

Relocation costs or other incentives may be available and considered by the organization.
Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft.
This position may require drug testing and the candidate may be subject to passing a drug test upon selection.
Selectee is expected to be granted with and/or maintain the appropriate security clearance required for the position.
Selectee may be required to serve a probationary or trial period.
Incumbent must within 30-days of assuming this position and annually thereafter, file an OGE-450, “Confidential Financial Disclosure Report.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs):
1. Knowledge of advanced concepts, principles, and practices of environmental planning, engineering or other scientific related fields to serve as the Air Force technical and managerial authority for compliance activity in air and water quality, solid and hazardous waste management, natural and cultural resources, and the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) within the assigned geographical area of responsibility.
2. Knowledge of organizational structure of Air Force elements, federal and state agencies, local governments, how they are organized, and environmental planning functions within these activities.
3. Knowledge of safety and security regulations, practices, and procedures.
4. Skill in analyzing issues and preparing recommendations to resolve unique or novel problems, conditions, or issues.
5. Ability to plan, organize and direct the functions and staff of a small to medium sized organization.
6. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
