Summary Serve as a Medical Technician (Blood Banking) performing routine technical procedures in a blood donor center. Learn more about this agency Duties Collects blood from donors and performs platelet apheresis. Prepares, preserves, processes, labels, stores, and ships blood and blood components with strict adherence to accuracy, traceability, and safety standards. Inputs donor and product testing information into the Blood Establishment Computer System (BECS) to maintain complete and accurate electronic records. Maintains donor center supply inventory by monitoring stock levels, identifying shortages, and ensuring adequate materials are available for blood collection and processing activities. Performs routine maintenance, repairs, and quality control checks on equipment, to include apheresis equipment. This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position. Work requires lifting and moving moderate to heavy items up to 50 lbs. This is a drug testing designated position (TDP) subject to pre-employment drug test and random drug testing. This position is subject to screening and update of required immunizations. This position has a mandatory annual seasonal influenza immunization requirement and is therefore subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations in accordance with Department of Defense Instruction (DoDI) 6205.02. This position is identified as Mission Essential which may require you to work or remain at work during an emergency situation or when inclement weather has curtailed operations (e.g., threat to the facility, natural disaster, delayed reporting). This position is identified as Inclement Weather Essential which may require you to report to work or remain at work during inclement weather conditions. This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. Shifts may be rotated on a regularly scheduled basis. This position requires Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel approximately 25% of the time away from your permanent duty station. This position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment provided by the employer. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: performing blood collection procedures, maintaining clinical laboratory equipment, and preparing reports and/or documenting results through clinical laboratory automated systems. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service GS-04.
