About the position: This position is Non-appropriated Fund (NAF) and will be assigned to the Equestrian Center, Air Force Academy, Colorado.

Duties
Provides care to government and privately owned horses at the Equestrian Center.
Feeds and waters horses.
Cleans stalls and stable areas, cleans water tanks and buckets, and cleans pasture and other facility areas.
Makes minor repairs to fences and facility.
Feeds and waters horses.
Observes horses for obvious changes in behavior, appearance, and activity; informs
supervisor if necessary.
Medicates and treats government horses per management and veterinary guidance.
Basic horse handling including leading, grooming, and tacking horses for rental activities.
Drives vehicles as necessary.
Assists in a variety of duties to help ensure the success of the Equestrian Center boarding and rental riding activities.
Assists at events and performs other related duties as assigned.
This is a developmental position having promotion potential to the Recreation Aid Animal Caretaker Desk Clerk.
Upon completion of at least 6 months experience as Recreation Aid Animal Caretaker, training on specified duties and abilities of the Recreation Aid Desk Clerk position, and positive evaluation by Management showing thorough knowledge and efficient skills required of the Recreation Aid Animal Caretaker Desk Clerk position, the incumbent may be noncompetitively
promoted to the higher pay grade.

Conditions of employment
This position requires the incumbent to complete a Tier 1 background investigation with favorable results.
This position has physical lifting requirement up to 75 pounds which requires the incumbent to complete a favorable pre-employment physical.
This position has been identified as a drug testing designated position. The incumbent of this position will be subject to and must consent to a pre-employment and random drug testing.
This position requires the incumbent to have a valid driver's license.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if the position allows for qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.
Qualifying Experience:
Applicant must have experience in basic animal care, preferably with horses.
Ability to communicate orally and in writing is required.
Must have good organizational and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to follow written or oral instructions with limited supervision.
Applicant must be physically capable of lifting supplies and materials up to 75 pounds and have physical strength and dexterity of both arms to handle horses and the ability to help patrons.
Work is performed inside and outside.
Subject to the elements of weather such as exposure to sun, wind, dust, soils, rain and snow, and hazards of equipment, contagious diseases, and horse related injuries such as exposure to bites, scratches, kicks and animal waste.
Must have the ability to operate a motor vehicle in a safe manner and have a valid driver's license.
This is a drug testing designated position.
The incumbent is subject to random testing for drug use.
Satisfactory completion of pre-employment physical and a Tier 1 investigation are required.

Education
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution.
FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.

U.S. Citizens and Non-U.S. Nationals who have resided in the U.S. Territory for three (3) or more consecutive years immediately preceding the start of Federal affiliation or a signed memorandum indicating the installation's decision on the 3-year residency requirement..
Male applicants born after December 31, 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
Direct deposit is required.
Satisfactorily complete an employment verification (E-Verify) check.
A probationary period may be required.
Pre-employment requirements must be satisfactorily met prior to Entrance on Duty (EOD).
Payment of Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs is not authorized, based on a determination that a PCS move is not in the Government's interest.
