Job description

Summary This is a public notice flyer to notify interested applicants of anticipated vacancies. Applications will not be accepted through this flyer. Duties You will operate comminutor or barminutor, grit removal system, splitter boxes, valves, pumps, collector systems, and primary settling tanks to move sewage and sludge through the pretreatment and primary treatment stages. You will perform tertiary operation functions, utilizing equipment such as: chemical mixing tanks: chemical feed pumps, flocculation tanks with flocculators; chemical feeders for dry and liquid feeding of polymer. You will respond to warning signals of the variety of alarm systems in the plant, investigates the reason, and takes appropriate action to correct the problem. You will operate a centrifuge vacuum coil filter or a belt filter press for final sludge disposal. You will perform operator maintenance on all equipment utilized by oiling, greasing, replacing parts, and adjusting in accordance with T(P}Ms, SOPs, manufacturers manuals, and written and oral instructions of superior. Requirements Conditions of employment Must be a US Citizen. Must be determined suitable for federal employment. Must participate in the direct deposit pay program. You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination. You will be required to possess and maintain an appropriate Wastewater Treatment Plant Operators Certification, (Class I or II) from the Virginia Department of Professional and Occupation Regulation. You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift. This position is considered a Key position. You will be required to provide immediate and continuing support to ensure the success of combat operations or the availability of combat-essential systems. This is a bargaining unit position. The Screen-out Element for this position is: the ability to perform common tasks including performing basic microbiological tests on outgoing water samples to verify the elimination of the treated microorganisms AND measuring and introducing chemicals and compounds into water system. Education Additional information This position is covered by the Department of Defense Priority Placement Program. This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required. This position requires rotating shift work. This position may require to train and/or guide lower graded employees.
