Summary Please note: There is no pay associated with this position. The Research Health Science Specialist will work under the supervision of a principal investigator on one or more research projects. This position requires a highly specialized mix of skills in computational biology, genetic epidemiology, and clinical expertise. A summary of the main duties is as follows: Major Duties: Performs advanced statistical analyses and creates visualizations throughout all research stages. Designs and performs complex studies including GenomeWide Association Studies (GWAS) and Phenome-Wide Association Studies (PheWAS) Translates statistical signals into human health outcomes. Interprets clinical relevance of identified genetic mutations. Maps variants to biological pathways and ensures conditions extracted from VA electronica health records make biological sense. You may qualify based on your education and experience as described below: Education: The position requires a Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree with major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. A transcript showing this education requirement is met must be submitted as part of your applicaton package. Specialized Experience: You must have specialized experience in performing tasks associated with Research studies. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: designing and conducting complex research studies; performing advanced statistical analyses; determining clinical relevance of findings and translating statistical signals into human health outcomes. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
