Summary This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Competitive Service Positions to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: This position is located at Ice Harbor Dam, Burbank, WA, operated by the US Army Corps of Engineers and situated on the Lower Snake River near the communities of Pasco, Kennewick, and Richland, WA. Learn more about this agency Duties Diagnoses malfunctions and performs major and minor repairs and maintenance on heavy mobile engineering equipment, generator assemblies, compressors and other stationary and mobile equipment. Perform metal fabrication, body or structural work requiring welding, soldering, and straightening of components. Perform preventive maintenance service and maintains equipment service records. Perform the full range of overhaul and repair work on heavy-duty mobile equipment and vehicles powered by internal combustion engines (gasoline, butane, diesel or multi-fuel). Diagnoses and repair fuel system failures, repairs and replaces carburetors, fuel pumps and fuel lines. Requirements Conditions of employment Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanic without more than normal supervision. Ability to perform the common tasks of a Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanic. Ability to remove, adjust, replace, clean, and install a variety of parts, components, and accessories to include filters, radiators, bearings, springs, shock absorbers, wheel cylinders, starter motors, pumps, mufflers, and other items of similar complexity. Ability to perform engine tune-ups and adjust brakes. Ability to assist in the removal, disassembly, repair, and reassembly of engines and transmissions. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Works for long periods in tiring or uncomfortable positions. Work often requires standing, stooping, crouching, bending, and stretching. There is frequent lifting of items weighing up to ten pounds and occasionally items weighing 45 pounds and often exert similar effort in pushing, pulling, and positioning parts, assemblies, and equipment. However, hoists, hand trucks, lifts, and other workers are available to assist with heavier items. The work is performed on top of, under, and in tight compartments of equipment in cramped or awkward positions. WORKING CONDITIONS: Employee is exposed to drafts, changing temperatures, and noise. Dirt, dust, and grease are always present. Exposure to wet and cold weather conditions. Exposure to exhaust fumes, cuts, bruises, burns, strains, and electrical shocks.
