Job description

Position Summary:
We are seeking a highly experienced and detail-oriented Accountant/Bookkeeper with a strong background in accounting for Department of Defense (DoD) contracts. The ideal candidate will have hands-on expertise with accounting software such as QuickBooks, Unanet, and ADP and possess a proven track record in managing and building efficient accounting departments. This role requires an in-depth understanding of government contracting regulations, financial reporting, and team leadership.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Accounting Operations:
    • Manage day-to-day accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger activities.
    • Prepare and analyze financial statements, ensuring compliance with GAAP and DoD regulations.
    • Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual closing processes.
  2. Government Contract Accounting:
    • Ensure compliance with FAR, DFARS, and other DoD-specific requirements.
    • Manage indirect rates and ensure accurate billing under cost-plus, T&M, and fixed-price contracts.
    • Prepare and support incurred cost submissions, DCAA audits, and other compliance reporting.
  3. Software Proficiency:
    • Use QuickBooks for managing accounting processes and financial reporting.
    • Leverage Unanet for project cost tracking, timekeeping, and billing.
    • Manage payroll processes through ADP, ensuring accuracy and timely disbursements.
  4. Financial Analysis & Reporting:
    • Generate budget forecasts and variance analysis to support strategic planning.
    • Provide actionable financial insights to executive leadership.
    • Collaborate with other departments to streamline processes and ensure alignment with financial goals.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA or CMA certification is a plus.
  • Experience: Minimum 8-10 years in accounting.
  • Industry Knowledge: Demonstrated experience working with Department of Defense contracts and a thorough understanding of government contracting regulations.
  • Software Proficiency: Advanced knowledge of QuickBooks, Unanet, and ADP is required.
  • Leadership Skills: Experience in building and managing accounting teams and implementing accounting systems/processes.
  • Analytical Abilities: Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail, with the ability to analyze complex financial data.
  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively interact with stakeholders at all levels.

Preferred Skills:

  • Familiarity with other accounting or ERP systems.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment.
  • Knowledge of compliance and audit preparation best practices.

Compensation:

$70K-$85K (Salary commensurate with experience)
