This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for an Automation Engineer in South Africa.

This role sits within a global technology environment focused on building, maintaining, and evolving enterprise-scale automation systems.
You will work closely with international teams to streamline infrastructure operations and improve system reliability through modern automation practices.
The position is heavily centered on infrastructure automation using tools such as VMware Aria and Ansible.
You will contribute to designing, developing, and deploying scalable automation workflows that support 24/7 global operations.

The role offers strong exposure to enterprise data center technologies, cloud platforms, and advanced scripting across multiple systems.

Accountabilities:

  • Design, develop, implement, and maintain automation workflows and infrastructure solutions supporting enterprise systems.
  • Manage lifecycle operations of automation components, ensuring stability, performance, and scalability.
  • Administer and optimize infrastructure automation platforms such as VMware Aria or Ansible.
  • Develop scripts and automation solutions using languages such as Python, PowerShell, Bash, or JavaScript.
  • Support infrastructure operations including Linux and Windows server environments, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and group policies.
  • Collaborate with global teams, participate in change control processes, and ensure proper documentation of systems and procedures.
  • Troubleshoot complex issues across cloud, on-premise, storage, and virtualization environments.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement by researching and prototyping new automation technologies.
  • Requirements:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or equivalent experience.
    • At least 5 years of experience in automation engineering using tools such as Ansible, VMware Aria, Terraform, Puppet, Chef, or similar platforms.
    • Strong experience with enterprise infrastructure and mid-to-large scale data center environments.
    • Advanced scripting skills in Python, PowerShell, Bash, or JavaScript.
    • Hands-on experience with VMware technologies including PowerCLI, vMotion, clusters, DRS, and distributed systems.
    • Solid understanding of cloud platforms such as AWS and Azure, as well as container and Kubernetes fundamentals.
    • Experience with Linux and Windows Server administration, including troubleshooting and maintenance.
    • Knowledge of enterprise storage systems (NFS, iSCSI, Fibre Channel, SMB).
    • Familiarity with IT service management and ticketing systems such as ServiceNow.
    • Strong analytical mindset, problem-solving ability, and excellent collaboration skills in global teams.
