Our amazing team of Engineers work on next generation Big Data Platforms that transform how users connect with each other every single day. Yahoo's Big Data Platform drives some of the most demanding applications in the industry. The system handles billions of requests a day and runs on some of the largest Hadoop clusters ever built! 50,000 nodes strong and several multi-thousand node clusters bring scalable computing to a whole new level. We work on problems that cover a wide spectrum - from web services to operating systems and networking layers. Our biggest challenges ahead are designing cloud native big data platforms.
Responsibilities:
Responsibilities will include engineering ownership in one or more of the following open source projects: Apache Spark, Jupyter, or Hue. This includes new feature work, particularly related to supporting cloud native big data use cases. You will also own improvements on existing code, debugging and investigation of user issues, participation in code reviews, designing and shipping the product. Contribute to standard methodologies and culture of the team. Participate in agile development with weekly sprints, planning & estimating work, daily standup, & retrospectives.
Qualifications:
- B.S. in Computer Science equivalent or higher with solid academic background, excellent problem solving skills with top of the class computer science knowledge.
- Experience with OOP: Java, C#, or similar
- Experience with Apache Hadoop, Storm, Spark, Jupyter, or Hue
- Deep understanding of the fundamentals including Data Structures, Algorithms, OS and Networking.
- Strong skills in system & application architecture
- Working knowledge of browser-side client technologies including AJAX, HTML5, CSS3 and object-oriented Javascript
- Working knowledge of scripting languages such as PHP, Perl, Python, and/or Ruby
- Familiar with HTTP and TCP/IP protocol
- Linux/Unix knowledge necessary
- Knowledge of JVM internals and its performance tuning.
- Network Programming Experience
- Experience with development and deployment on public cloud platforms such as AWS
- Familiar with frontend test driven development
- Experience with JavaScript framework such as React, Angular, Ember and node.js
- Experience with continuous integration (CI) frameworks such as Jenkins and Hudson
- Familiar with SCRUM or similar agile methodology
- REST API (with Jersey and/or Servlets 3.0)
- Non-blocking I/O (NIO)
- Asynchronous implementations (especially with HTTP clients)
- Multi-threaded programming and/or understanding contention issues
- Large-scale, large user base development
- Web-scale or enterprise-scale development
- Building or maintaining databases or repositories
- Knowledge of accessibility preferred

If hired for this position in Colorado, the compensation range for this position is between $97,500.00 - $162,500.00. The compensation may vary depending on your location, skills and experience. The compensation package may also include additional incentive compensation opportunities in the form of discretionary annual bonus or commissions, plus equity incentives. Yahoo provides industry-leading benefits including healthcare, retirement, company holidays, vacation, sick time, parental leave and an employee assistance program.
