As a Content Designer with an assessment and literacy focus, you will design clear, engaging assessment items and collaborate with other team members to achieve our learning goals. Your literacy expertise,, creative solutions, strong writing skills, and commitment to quality will make you successful in this role.

This is an 5-month contract position requiring 35 hours of work per week. 

In this role, you will:

  • Write and review clear, engaging assessment items to address specific learning objectives and literacy skills.
  • Review and edit assessment items and collaborate with our team of writers and editors to ensure content is clear, accurate, and age-appropriate.
  • Write distractor rationales and other assessment documentation.
  • Develop and manage project plans to create and deliver high-quality assessment items.
  • Research and analyze content requirements, including state educational standards.

On Your Resume

  • Bachelor's in Education, English, Linguistics, or a related field with an explicit focus on literacy. A Master's or Ph.D. is a plus.
  • Experience developing items for widely-used literacy-driven assessments. Experience in curriculum development and instructional design for an edtech product is a plus.
  • Teaching experience. You have at least 4 years of experience, with 2 years teaching literacy in a K-8 setting. At  least 1 year in a school or district leadership role, possibly providing professional development for teachers, is a plus. 
  • Pedagogical expertise. You are familiar with external ELA standards (e.g. CCSS), and can design assessment content that effectively measure learning outcomes and literacy skills for learners with varying backgrounds.
  • Writing skills. Outstanding written and spoken communication skills, including the ability to communicate clearly and concisely with a wide range of age groups
  • Operational focus. You are organized and efficient, and strive to continuously improve your workflow and processes.

The starting salary for this role is between $40.00 - $45.00 per hour, depending on skills and experience. We take a geo-neutral approach to compensation within the US, meaning that we pay based on job function and level, not location. For all other countries, we have competitive pay bands based on market standards. Individual compensation decisions are based on a number of factors, including experience level, skillset, and balancing internal equity relative to peers at the company. We expect the majority of the candidates who are offered roles at our company to fall healthily throughout the range based on these factors. We recognize that the person we hire may be less experienced (or more senior) than this job description as posted. If that ends up being the case, the updated salary range will be communicated with you as a candidate.
