Job Summary:

The Cyber Readiness Engineer 2 provides the day-to-day operations and engineering of the cyber range. This Engineer will install, manage, and maintain multiple network and endpoint security controls, develop and update operational documentation, and ensure the range is accurately configured for exercises and assessments.

Major Job Responsibilities:
(30%) Develop and update documentation covering range design, configuration, maintenance procedures, and test results.
(15%) Support planning, execution, and reporting on exercises that enable measuring readiness for relevant threats.
(10%) Collaborate directly with offensive and defensive security subject matter experts to gather requirements for the cyber range.
(10%) Train users on range usage and configuration. Assist with the execution of exercises, training classes, and product assessments.
(5%) Support the ongoing development and maturation of Cyber Readiness. Generates ideas on improving process, becoming more efficient, eliminating waste, automation, etc.

(30%) Configure, update and maintain range infrastructure, applications, and security controls to ensure the range is accurately configured.

Problem Solving:

This role should be able to demonstrate critical analysis and effective problem solving on progressively more complex issues. They should also be able to lead sessions to determine recommendations based on an analysis of an issue. Recognize when escalation or help is required and help resolve escalations that are made to them.

Minimum Education:

Undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or related field.

Job Related Experience:

6+ years in Information Technology or Information Security.

Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Knowledge -
Knowledge of common computer/network infections (virus, Trojan, etc.) and methods of infection (ports, attachments, etc.).
Knowledge of cyber attack stages (e.g., reconnaissance, scanning, enumeration, gaining access, escalation of privileges, maintaining access, network exploitation, covering tracks).
Knowledge of cyber defense and vulnerability assessment tools and their capabilities.
Knowledge of system and application security threats and vulnerabilities (e.g., buffer overflow, mobile code, cross-site scripting, Procedural Language/Structured Query Language [PL/SQL] and injections, race conditions, covert channel, replay, return-oriented attacks, malicious code).
Knowledge of the common networking and routing protocols (e.g. TCP/IP), services (e.g., web, mail, DNS), and how they interact to provide network communications.

Skills -
Skill in configuring and utilizing computer protection components (e.g., hardware firewalls, servers, routers, as appropriate).
Skill in configuring and utilizing network protection components (e.g., Firewalls, VPNs, network intrusion detection systems).
Skill in configuring and utilizing software-based computer protection tools (e.g., software firewalls, antivirus software, anti-spyware).
Skill in installing, configuring, and troubleshooting LAN and WAN components such as routers, hubs, and switches.
Skill in writing about facts and ideas in a clear, convincing, and organized manner.

Abilities -
Ability to communicate complex information, concepts, or ideas in a confident and well-organized manner through verbal, written, and/or visual means.
Ability to function in a collaborative environment, seeking continuous consultation with other analysts and experts to leverage analytical and technical expertise.
Ability to interpret the information collected by OS command line tools (e.g. nslookup, ping, traceroute, netstat, nbtstat, lsof).

Desired Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Knowledge:
Knowledge of cyber competitions as a way of developing skills by providing hands-on experience in simulated, real-world situations.
Knowledge of new and emerging information technology (IT) and cybersecurity technologies.
Knowledge of attack methods and techniques (DDoS, brute force, spoofing, etc.).
Knowledge of service management concepts for networks and related standards (e.g., Information Technology Infrastructure Library, current version [ITIL]).

Skills:
Skill in performing packet-level analysis.
Skill to remain aware of evolving technical infrastructures.
Skill in identifying cyber threats which may jeopardize organization and/or partner interests.
Skill in using virtual machines. (e.g., Microsoft Hyper-V, VMWare vSphere, Citrix XenDesktop/Server, Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud, etc.).

Abilities:
Ability to prepare and present briefings.
