The Role

With an emerging AWS platform that grew organically from within the software engineering team, we’re on the lookout for a DevOps engineer to establish the foundations of platform operations full time.

Your primary function will be to maintain the 24/7 operation of our servers and managed services, which includes our APIs, databases, Operating systems and DNS configuration, but also managing security operations of a modern Fintech platform, including threat detection and performing regular platform audits.

In this role you will work remotely, being part of the wider AU engineering team, following a “you build it, you run it” approach. We’re looking for someone who understands the interface between development and operations, and has previously been accountable for operating complex production systems.

How you contribute

• You will be accountable for maintaining platform uptime to defined service level agreements.
• Updating operating systems and managed services to the required patch levels and scheduling maintenance windows accordingly.
• The role includes actively monitoring web traffic and ensuring quality metrics for our API response are met.
• You work with external auditors to ensure the platform is maintained to well defined security standards such as ASAE 3150 or ISO 27001
• You automate standard operational tasks such as deployments, peer reviews, vulnerability scans or similar to continuously help improve the delivery process within the engineering team.
• You monitor the ongoing costs of our AWS infrastructure and make recommendations for performance improvements as well as savings.

What you're bringing to the table

• Computer science degree, or equivalent technical or engineering related qualification.
• You have 3+ years of experience in a DevOps role in a Fintech environment, where you were accountable for platform operations in a hands-on capacity.
• Very good understanding of day to day operations of AWS managed services, such as EC2, Beanstalk, EKS, RDS, Route53 and REDIS, including CLI and API access.
• Working experience with operating and maintaining monitoring systems such as Splunk, Sumologic or ELK.
• Recent programming experience in a scripting language to automate operational tasks, specifically using a modern infrastructure as code environment such as Terraform.
• Ideally, you have recent experience in a business based on Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) products and services across Australia & New Zealand
