Job Summary (What You’ll do): 

Reporting to the VP Controller, the Director, Accounting is responsible for directing the corporate accounting activities and function, including the accounting close; establishing and maintaining accounting policies and procedures; implementing guidance regarding complex accounting issues, new accounting pronouncements and regulations; and effectively managing significant interaction and communication with other corporate functions. The Director, Accounting will oversee 2 Senior Accountants, 1 Accountant, and 2-3 overseas AP resources. The ideal candidate is a proven leader who is extremely detail-oriented, curious, and enjoys working in a dynamic environment.

  • Support and enhance a strong controllership team equal to public company standards, including responsibility for general ledger, accounts payable, payroll, equity administration, and technical accounting
  • Ensure all financial reports are prepared and presented in a timely manner by closely managing month-end
  • Partner with leaders throughout the organization to improve processes and ensure efficiency in cross-functional initiatives
  • Liaise with external partners, including external auditors, 3rd party suppliers, consultants, etc.
  • Drive the month-, quarter- and year-end closes to internal deadlines, improving processes, reducing manual effort, and ensuring accuracy and efficiency, with goals to meet timelines equal to public company standards
  • Partner with FP&A to improve the accuracy of the monthly reporting
  • Supervise the company's cash position, execute payments, and develop strategies to optimize cash flows for the growing organization
  • Partner closely with the FP&A team in identifying opportunities and mitigating risk, and throughout the financial planning and close processes
  • Review vendor and partner contracts with regard to financial reporting and tax matters
  • Ensure accounting policies and procedures comply with current GAAP; support implementing new GAAP requirements where necessary
  • Identify and implement process improvements, including system automation and process simplification initiatives
  • Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment 
  • Mentor accounting team members to build on skills and experience, enhancing contributions to the organization

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Excellent project management skills and strong experience in delegating to meet timelines
  • Demonstrated, hands-on experience in leading growing teams in dynamic environments
  • Advanced knowledge of GAAP and technical accounting expertise in the context of a public company
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization
  • Advanced excel skills required

Nice to Haves

  • MBA or advanced degree preferred
  • Prior experience with Netsuite, Bill.com, Expensify a plus
  • IPO experience a plus

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
  • CPA required
  • 12+ years of general professional experience with increasing levels of responsibility
  • 8+ years of accounting experience typically required
  • 6+ years of experience overseeing teams

The anticipated salary range for this position is $151,700  - $212,400. The base salary range represents the low and high end of Calm’s salary range for this position. Not all candidates will be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. Exact salary will ultimately depend on multiple factors, which may include the successful candidates skills, experience and other qualifications. This role is also eligible for equity + comprehensive benefits + 401k + flexible time off
