The Director, Global Compensation is a pivotal role on the Total Rewards, HRIS, and People Operations leadership team. The key focus of this role is to set a global compensation strategy that reinforces Upwork's values and exceptional culture through programs, processes, and policies that attract, engage, and motivate top talent. You will also combine both feedback from employees and partners and the latest industry research to make scalable, data-driven, and equitable compensation decisions. You will have the freedom to synthesize, analyze, and uncover unique trends and ideas, which you translate into actionable recommendations for leaders across the organization.

Your Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the Total Rewards Leader to strategize, design, and deliver new and innovative compensation plans
- Lead semi annual compensation review process, including partnering with cross-functional teams to drive consistency in compensation planning, program administration, and performance cycles
- Analyze market data and provide job profile insights for creation of compensation bands for new and existing roles in business
- Build and maintain impactful relationships with Human Resource Business Partners and Managers to ensure effective communication of compensation strategies
- Partner with Talent Attraction and relentless review market data to stay in front of compensation trends
What it takes to catch our eye:
- Deep compensation experience in the tech space
- Technical knowledge of compensation design and track record of providing creative and scalable designs and programs responsive to the company's evolving strategies
- Previous experience in preparing materials for the Compensation Committee of a Board of Directors and external reporting
- Strong collaboration skills; ability to operate effectively in a team environment, including Finance, Legal, HRBPs and all levels of management
- Ability to efficiently manipulate large amounts of data and tell a story with data using Microsoft Excel (or Google Sheets), Google Slides, Google Docs, and related tools
- CCP certifications a plus; Workday experience preferred
- Outstanding interpersonal, problem-solving, leadership, and project management skills
- A passion for data analytics
