We are hiring a Director of Business Intelligence with experience leading impactful and agile development teams within the engineering organization, delivering data to multi-functional partners, and serving as a key input into data strategy and data model development.
The Director of Business Intelligence will manage a team responsible for building, maintaining and leading our enterprise data warehouse, which serves as a source of truth powering our internal and external analytics, forecasting, and broader data strategy needs.
Your team will be passionate about building extensible solutions that will scale with our continued business growth and deliver data-as-a-product with utmost accuracy and quality. You will serve as a dot-connector, thought-partner, collaborator, and enabler of data as a key strategic asset for Guild. Moreover, you’ll use your expertise in data and leading teams to develop, grow, and mentor a top-performing team within the organization that ultimately helps to enable education benefits for students. To do that, you will need to develop a deep understanding of our data, operations, and the business and have a solid grasp for reporting infrastructure and scaling standard methodologies.
- Ensure delivery of high quality, secure and reliable data products aligned with the needs of the business across multiple teams.
- Partner with product and analytics to work with other leaders in the organization to build out and prioritize initiatives into an overall data set of work streams within the product roadmap.
- Work multi-functionally with a broad set of interpersonal partners such as Analytics and Insights, Product, Technology, Marketing, Finance, Sales and our executive leadership team to ensure planning and execution is aligned with business strategy, and your team is delivering efficiently and iteratively against those priorities on the data strategy roadmap
- Lead teams of BI engineers to build high quality scalable systems and solutions, delivery of data-as-a-product, collaborating on reporting architecture improvements, leaning in from a technical requirements and design perspective or helping the team to design a new on-call support rotation monitoring and on-call processes.
- Recruit, develop and retain top talent. Work with HR and other technology leaders to lead recruiting, retention and continuous learning opportunities for your team in the context of Guild’s DEI goals.
- Weigh tradeoffs and have in-depth discussions on the nuances and scalability of our BI infrastructure systems - within the context of technologies such as Looker, DBT (data build tool), Snowflake, Airflow, GitHub, and Salesforce as well as other topics such as data modeling and evaluating new technologies and systems.
- Encourage and empower teams in a hybrid remote working environment.

Required Proficiencies
- Depth of experience leading data engineering organizations serving highly diverse and data hungry business partners in companies deriving competitive advantage through data products
- Depth of understanding of data modeling, data transformations, data science and machine learning applications, critical metrics and executive dashboards, reporting and analytics.
- Expertise leading teams using modern technologies and standard methodologies for data system development such as Snowflake, Looker, DBT, Airflow, AWS, Python, Monte Carlo, Tonic etc.
- Experience with different data warehouse architecture approaches such as data mesh, data vault, Inmon and Kimball architectures.
- Strong verbal, visual, and written communication skills with the ability to explain approach to all levels including key partners and leaders.
- Able to think strategically and see the big picture while also focusing teams on execution and delivery.
- Ability to communicate goals and objectives broadly to technical teams as well as broader business partners.
- Experience leading and mentoring managers and individual contributors and building out career pathing in an organization.
- Shown success working closely with Product Management and Analytics, giving to the product and data strategy and helping to successfully deliver on a higher-level roadmap.
We feel passionately about equal pay for equal work, and transparency in compensation is one vehicle to achieve that. Total compensation for this role is market competitive, including a base salary range of $220,000 - $246,250, as well as company stock options.
