The Finance team at Whatnot is broad and focuses on supporting the entire business. Overall  areas of responsibility include: modeling, strategic planning, fundraising, M&A, investor  relations, financial reporting, financial analysis, operational finance, accounting, tax, and  facilities. We strive to be agents of change and are highly involved in strategic decisions and the  operations of the company. As the first hire in Tax, you'll help define and implement our global tax strategy, and will work with a broad range of individuals and teams across the company.

• Ensure completeness and accuracy of tax compliance and reporting for U.S. federal, state, local, indirect taxes, and GAAP requirements by maintaining current knowledge of laws,  regulations, accounting, and reporting standards, while advising management on  needed actions.
• Oversee quarterly and year-end tax provisions and disclosures.
• Oversee all aspects of domestic compliance and audits including federal, state and local income tax returns and filings.
• Establish Whatnot’s international tax strategy for global expansion.
• Responsible for managing outside advisors as required, including developing a global transfer pricing strategy.

As our Tax Director, you should have 10+ years of relevant tax experience, plus: 

• Strong knowledge of accounting for income taxes, corporate income tax compliance and audits (federal, state, and local) internal controls, U.S. GAAP and SEC reporting requirements.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Business / Finance / Accounting / Economics; CPA preferred
• Ability to work effectively on cross functional and international teams
• Comfortable working in a constantly changing, fast-paced environment with competing priorities
• Demonstrated ability to understand, identify, and address complex domestic and cross-border tax matters.
