Reddit is continuing to grow our teams with the best talent. We're completely remote friendly and will continue to be after the pandemic.

We’re hiring an engineering manager to oversee the Ads Integrity team within the Ads Engineering org. Ads provide the fuel for Reddit’s mission – it’s our primary source of revenue. This team is focused on protecting reddit and end users from bad ads, primarily through Ad Review. All ads at reddit are reviewed to ensure compliance with policies. Ad Review is one of the primary mechanisms we use to maintain a low fraud/bad debt amount, and it ensures high quality advertisements are sent to our ad auction to be considered for delivery.

You’ll be managing a distributed team of 4-6 software engineers until the end of 2022. This team will likely grow 100%+ in 2023, so you should be prepared to hire and onboard 4-8 FTEs and scale up short-term contracting help where necessary.

In 2023, reddit ads will be expanding its ad formats offerings - and there is a large dependency on this team to build the toolset required to support Ad Review growing orders of magnitude more than the current scale. You will be responsible for ensuring execution on the pre-committed, high-visibility, high-priority roadmap items to enable this workstream, as well as the other KPI-driven 2023 roadmap items.

You will work closely with multiple PMs to find opportunities to move our 2023 KPIs in addition to the already planned 2023 roadmap items. You will be responsible for partnering with the PM to develop long-term vision for the team and the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a team of backend and full-stack engineers, from junior to senior levels.
  • Grow the team by hiring and retaining software engineers
  • Set and enforce a high-quality bar for code, system design, and verbal/written communication.
  • Set and support a culture of data-informed decision making, with transparency and efficient processes
  • Collaborate with product managers, data scientists, and other internal stakeholders to identify opportunities for system improvements and product enhancements
  • Partner with senior and peer management on roadmapping and execution
  • Participate in the full development cycle: design, development, QA, experimentation, analysis, launch, and monitoring
  • Help your direct reports with career development through regular performance management processes

Qualifications

  • 2+ year of supporting and growing engineering teams - ideally hiring and scaling a team over 100% growth
  • Experience managing a team including hiring, onboarding, and professional development
  • Several years of software development experience in front-end or fullstack engineering
  • You're technical, enough to solve almost any problem your team has yourself, but you prefer to guide your team into solving them
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. You must be able to collaborate effectively with teams in a fully-remote environment and discuss complex topics with technical and non-technical audiences
  • Experience with data driven/informed decision making
  • Familiarity with the team’s tech stack, or a proven history on quickly reaching proficiency in unfamiliar tools/languages

Bonus Qualifications

  • Experience with Ads systems
  • Experience building internal tooling for operations teams
  • Experience building tooling to automate user generated content review

Tech Stack:

  • Languages: Typescript, Python, Golang
  • Frameworks: React/Redux, Thrift, Baseplate, Kafka, SQS
  • Datastores: Postgres, Druid, Redis, BigQuery
  • Tools: Kubernetes, Airflow, Docker
