Engineering Manager, Backend (Ledger)

We are looking for a highly motivated Engineering Manager with a track record of leading and growing high performing engineering teams to build and lead the Ledgers team. Come join this backend engineering team as we build the next generation of our systems to scale with Affirm's growth.

What you'll do

• Lead, mentor and grow an engineering team responsible for backend processes which serve as the system of record for Affirm's products, and power critical services and decision making at the company.
• Provide leadership and career growth opportunities to team members, develop talent, and mentor engineers.
• Own availability, reliability, and performance of your team's systems.
• Collaborate with engineering teams, product managers, and other cross-functional partners to deliver high quality and robust services.
• Foster a respectful and supportive environment for all team members that effectively leverages the diversity of the team.

What we look for

• 5+ years of experience as a software engineer with leadership responsibilities and 2-3+ years as an engineering manager.
• Prior experience growing and managing a high performing engineering team.
• Fluency in backend development. Experience developing and scaling production systems in a service oriented architecture.
• Prior experience architecting, building, launching and maintaining complex products.
• Strong cross-team communication and collaboration skills.
• Track record of hiring, mentoring, coaching, and developing diverse engineering talent.
• Drive to change consumer financial services for the better.
• Comfortability with ambiguity and self-awareness to understand and navigate the unknown.
• Fintech and/or financial systems experience is a plus.
