We are looking for a highly motivated Engineering Manager with a track record of leading and growing high performing engineering teams to build and lead the Ledgers team. Come join this backend engineering team as we build the next generation of our systems to scale with Affirm's growth.
The Ledgers team enables rapid financial product innovation by providing an audit-grade ledger platform that ties ambitious company growth to a highly regulated industry's real-world accounting controls. The majority of our roles are remote and can be located anywhere in the U.S. and Canada (with the exception of the U.S. Territories, Quebec, Yukon, Nunavut, and the Northwest Territories) unless the job indicates a different global location. We are currently building operations in Spain, Poland, and Australia. Employees in remote roles have the option of working remotely or from an Affirm office in their country of hire, and may occasionally travel to an Affirm office or elsewhere for required meetings or team-building events. Our offices in Chicago, New York, Pittsburgh, Salt Lake City, San Francisco and Toronto will remain operational and accessible for anyone to use on a voluntary basis, subject to local COVID-19 guidelines.

What you'll do
- Lead, mentor and grow an engineering team responsible for backend processes which serve as the system of record for Affirm's products, and power critical services and decision making at the company.
- Provide leadership and career growth opportunities to team members, develop talent, and mentor engineers.
- Own availability, reliability, and performance of your team's systems.
- Collaborate with engineering teams, product managers, and other cross-functional partners to deliver high quality and robust services.
- Foster a respectful and supportive environment for all team members that effectively leverages the diversity of the team.
What we look for
- 5+ years of experience as a software engineer with leadership responsibilities and 2-3+ years as an engineering manager.
- Prior experience growing and managing a high performing engineering team.
- Fluency in backend development. Experience developing and scaling production systems in a service oriented architecture.
- Prior experience architecting, building, launching and maintaining complex products.
- Strong cross-team communication and collaboration skills.
- Track record of hiring, mentoring, coaching, and developing diverse engineering talent.
- Drive to change consumer financial services for the better.
- Comfortability with ambiguity and self-awareness to understand and navigate the unknown.
- Fintech and/or financial systems experience is a plus.
