The Instructional Design Specialist will work closely with National Institute of Medical Assistant Advancement (NIMAA) (75%) and Weitzman Institute (25%) Education core team and is responsible for the instructional design activities of education interventions as well as management and maintance of student information systems (SIS) and learning management systems (LMS), preferably Populi and EthosCE.

The National Institute for Medical Assistant Advancement (NIMAA) is a Denver, CO-based, nationally accredited, not for profit post-secondary vocational program that trains Medical Assistants (MAs) to effectively participate in high-functioning, team-based primary care settings.

NIMAA's key objectives include:

  • Creating opportunities for a diverse student population to enter the healthcare field in a manner that positions them for future career advancement
  • Strengthening team-based primary care through the addition of medical assistants with the knowledge, clinical skills, and critical thinking to participate fully in patient-centered, population health-focused care for individuals and families; and
  • Improving the delivery of healthcare to underserved populations by strengthening primary care and the teams that deliver it.

NIMAA accomplishes these objectives through:

  • Its unique approach to education, training, and ongoing development of healthcare professionals.
  • Online didactic education that develops team-based practice and critical thinking skills.
  • Building long-term relationships with organizations to host practice-based externships high-performing primary care practices identified by NIMAA as "externship organizations".
  • Sustaining these externship relationships through mentoring, preceptor training, and practice consultation to ensure the NIMAA students receive appropriate training, education, and support.

Weitzman Institute's Education Program has three core areas of focus - health professions training, continuing education, and system transformation. Education interventions include Weitzman ECHO, learning collaboratives, webinars, enduring materials, technical assistance, consultation, and other innovative interventions. Weitzman Education aims to provide high-quality, interdisciplinary, and innovative continuing education opportunities for health professionals in FQHCs and other primary care practices across the United States. Our mission is to enhance the team-based practice skills of primary care providers and care team members on chronic and complex conditions and diseases to improve the health of the vulnerable patient populations they serve. We are able to award continuing education credit (CEUs) to physicians, nurse practitioners, pharmacists, nurses, physician associates/assistants, dentists, psychologists, social workers, and dietitians

The Instructional Design Specialist is responsible for maintenance of the Student Information System (SIS) and Learning Management System (LMS) and for the needs analysis, development, design, implementation and evaluation of educational interventions for primary care providers, residents, care team staff, students, and clinical, operational, and executive leaders in primary care and other health care organizations. Specific responsibilities include instructional design support for NIMAA and Weitzman Education for a variety of educational interventions in various stages of planning, implementation, and evaluation; work with faculty and education staff to develop and enhance didactics and other educational materials; engagement with participants involved in the various interventions to build and maintain learning communities; tracking and monitoring of operational data including reports for continual improvement of education interventions; and software use for managing educational activities for learners, organizations, faculty, and supportive learning materials, such as case presentations, video recordings, and other live and asynchronous materials; and engagement with the IT teams on the SIS and LMS as needed.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Demonstrated expertise in developing instructional resources
  • Managing and maintaining Student information systems (SIS) and Learning Management Systems (LMS), preferably Populi and EthosCE systems
  • Uses Instructional Systems Design (ISD) principles (such as the ADDIE model), adult learning principles, and innovation strategies to plan the analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation for virtual and multimedia education programs for a variety of health professionals and students serving vulnerable and underserved populations
  • Provides evaluation of curriculum documents and instructional delivery procedures.
  • Guides faculty in the application of effective teaching and assessment strategies in a web-based learning environment.
  • Designs and develops instructional web pages, online courses, and learning materials with the focus on usability.
  • Is proficient with Learning Management Systems and Student Information Systems and other education technology tools to enhance learning
  • Is proficient with Microsoft Office products, standard web technologies, languages and authoring tools, and graphic/multimedia development tools.
  • Applies thorough knowledge and experience in instructional design and adult learning theories.
  • Uses strong interpersonal and project management skills in order to motivate and encourage faculty to try new and different learning styles.
  • Builds templates and supports the NIMAA and Weitzman teams in the creation and design of virtual instruction for health professionals and students.
  • Integrates technology in traditional courses and provides instructional technology support.
  • Tracks trends in educational and instructional technology.
  • Introduces and implements emerging educational technologies while assisting faculty and program planning team with development, assessment and evaluation of learning activities.
  • Assists with meeting accreditation standards and reporting.
  • Provides coaching and mentoring to other team personnel to ensure timely design and development of instructional materials.
  • Establishes and/or reviews course content and objectives.
  • May provide team leadership, including evaluating the effectiveness of training presentations and programs.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's Degree in Instructional Design or related field; Master's degree in Instructional Design preferred. At least two years of instructional design experience.
  • Must have proven experience using Instructional Systems Design (ISD) principles to plan the analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation for multimedia and traditional training systems developed for adult education programs, preferably in health care or for health professionals.
  • Experience with virtual education programs preferred, including live and asynchronous programs.
  • Experience with continuing medical education or health professions preferred.
  • Must have experience in providing evaluation of curriculum documents and instructional delivery procedures.

Preferred Skills

Excellent oral and written skills are required. This position is highly involved with staff, faculty, providers, clients, colleagues, outside vendors, and community.

SIS and LMS experience, preference for Populi and EthosCE systems.
