This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Lead Data Engineer based in Australia.
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced data professional to lead the delivery of modern cloud-based data solutions for global organisations.
The role combines hands-on engineering expertise with technical leadership, consulting, and stakeholder engagement.
You will work on complex data transformation initiatives across industries such as finance, insurance, government, telecommunications, media, and FMCG.
The position offers the chance to shape data strategies, design scalable architectures, and mentor other engineers.
You will collaborate with clients and internal teams to deliver high-quality solutions using leading cloud data technologies.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys solving complex data challenges while growing into a broader technical leadership position.
Accountabilities:
- Deliver scalable cloud-based data engineering solutions for enterprise clients across a variety of industries.
- Design, develop, and optimize data platforms, pipelines, and architectures that support business intelligence and analytics initiatives.
- Provide technical leadership, best practices, and guidance throughout data engineering projects.
- Collaborate directly with stakeholders during discovery, requirements gathering, solution design, and delivery phases.
- Support pre-sales activities by contributing technical expertise, solution approaches, and architecture recommendations.
- Mentor and support other engineers, helping improve technical capability and delivery quality across the team.
- Drive engineering standards, delivery excellence, and continuous improvement across multiple client engagements.
- Work with modern cloud data technologies to build reliable, scalable, and efficient data solutions.
- Contribute to the growth of the data practice by sharing knowledge, improving processes, and supporting capability development.
- 7–10 years of experience in data engineering, cloud computing, data warehousing, or related technical fields.
- Strong hands-on experience with modern cloud data platforms such as Snowflake, Databricks, Redshift, Microsoft Fabric, or similar technologies.
- Strong knowledge of data modelling, ETL/ELT processes, SQL, and data platform development.
- Experience designing and implementing scalable data solutions in complex enterprise environments.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills with a strong consulting mindset.
- Ability to take ownership of technical decisions and step into a lead role, even without extensive previous management experience.
- Experience working with clients and translating business requirements into effective technical solutions.
- Familiarity with data architecture and solution design principles.
- Experience with tools such as dbt, Fivetran, Matillion, or similar data engineering platforms is highly desirable.
- Programming experience with languages such as Python, Java, or Scala is a plus.
- Relevant cloud or data certifications, such as SnowPro or equivalent, are advantageous.
