This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Legal Counsel in India.
This is a multifaceted legal role combining immigration law, commercial contracting, workforce compliance, and legal technology innovation within a UK-focused operating environment. You will act as a key legal partner supporting UK business operations from an India-based delivery center, ensuring compliance across immigration sponsorship, contracting, and regulatory obligations. The role involves close collaboration with UK leadership, recruitment teams, external counsel, and internal stakeholders across multiple jurisdictions. In addition to traditional legal responsibilities, you will also contribute to the testing and improvement of AI-driven legal tools, helping shape the future of legal operations. This position is ideal for a detail-oriented legal professional who thrives in structured yet fast-evolving environments and is comfortable working across UK and Indian legal frameworks.
Accountabilities:
- Manage UK immigration and sponsorship compliance activities, including Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) reviews, Skilled Worker visa documentation, and Home Office regulatory alignment
- Support end-to-end visa processes across multiple routes such as Skilled Worker, Global Business Mobility, and Graduate visas, ensuring accuracy and compliance
- Review security clearance applications (SC, CTC, DV) for UK government projects, ensuring completeness and adherence to UKSV requirements
- Provide guidance on UK immigration rules, eligibility, processing timelines, and sponsorship obligations to internal and external stakeholders
- Maintain accurate sponsorship and immigration records in line with UKVI compliance requirements and support audit readiness
- Draft, review, and negotiate NDAs, subcontracting agreements, and related commercial contracts, ensuring proper risk allocation and compliance
- Manage contract lifecycle activities including renewals, amendments, escalation workflows, and contract register maintenance
- Support workforce compliance, including IR35 assessments, contractor onboarding, employment documentation, and regulatory alignment
- Collaborate with HR, finance, and recruitment teams to ensure compliant and timely onboarding of employees and contractors
- Contribute to AI legal product testing by designing test cases, evaluating outputs, and providing structured feedback on legal-tech tools
- Bachelor’s degree in Law (LLB) with enrollment in the Bar Council of India or equivalent professional body
- 3–5 years of post-qualification experience in commercial law, immigration law, or in-house legal operations
- Strong working knowledge of UK immigration law, including Skilled Worker visa rules and sponsor compliance obligations
- Experience drafting, reviewing, and negotiating NDAs and commercial agreements
- Excellent written and verbal English communication skills with the ability to work with UK stakeholders and terminology
- Strong attention to detail with a methodical and structured approach to legal documentation and compliance
- Ability to work independently in a hybrid, cross-border environment aligned with UK business hours
- Strong stakeholder management skills and ability to balance multiple legal and operational priorities
- Desirable experience in legal-tech, UK government contracts, GDPR, or compliance frameworks such as ISO 27001 or Cyber Essentials
