Job Summary
The Legal Counsel – Data Privacy will be an important part of the legal team, working closely with the Sales, Go to Market, Procurement and other teams to identify and manage legal risk relating to the transactional aspects of collection and processing of personal data in a B2B SaaS based environment. This is a predominantly transactional role and the position requires strong analytical, attention to detail and communications skills; excellent interpersonal and prioritization capabilities; a commercially focused mindset; and an aptitude for providing pragmatic solutions. This individual must have experience working in-house within a global commercial environment with a thorough understanding of the key provisions of cloud/SaaS agreements and be able to independently negotiate with customers and vendors to complete contracts in a timely manner with minimal supervision.
What you will do:
Provide legal resource and advice on global privacy matters such as:
- Drafting and negotiating customer and vendor facing data processing agreements (DPAs) and Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs), as part of the wider commercial contract negotiations.
- Repapering and negotiating existing commercial agreements with customers and key vendors, including locating in scope contracts and drafting amendments in line with new legal and privacy requirements.
- Providing support in relation to the completion of customer facing transfer impact assessments and the handling of data subject requests.
- The majority of your work will be data privacy focused. The remainder of your time will be spent advising and supporting other areas of the business including providing general legal support as required (support and training will be provided where appropriate).
Who you are?
- Qualified solicitor or barrister with a valid practicing certificate.
- Commercially focused with solid background in commercial contracts and privacy legislation.
- At least 2 years post-qualification data privacy law experience within a fast-paced global commercial environment with experience of working on cloud/SaaS agreements (technology sector an advantage).
- Experience of advising on EU/UK privacy issues, including in-depth knowledge of the GDPR, is essential. Experience of advising on US privacy issues in addition to UK/EU is preferred.
- Well organized, detail oriented with a positive attitude and ability to work under pressure to prioritize and meet competing deadlines.
- Strong relationship-building skills and excellent interpersonal, influencing and communication skills, both oral and written.
- Ability to translate complex legal issues to a wide range of colleagues.
- Excellent analytical, judgement and decision-making skills.
- Team player with excellent negotiation, writing and communication skills.
- Self-starter with a sense of humor.
